Hi. I am having trouble connecting my PX130 to my laptop. I already have the USB cable and Audacity. But when I press the key, it doesn't record to audacity. Please help me.

hey guys, am i missing something? all i did was plug this usb cable ( http://www.amazon.com/Mediabridge-Hi-Spe...5992&sr=8-1) in my casio px130 and computer. i opened audacity and click the record button. when i play, it doesn't record anything. all it does is record the sound of me hitting the keys through the laptop mic. (my headphones are connected to the keyboard btw)

thanks, but it didn't quite help me. im stuck on the part where i have to find my casio device on audacity but it didn't detect it.

Sorry, but it wont detect. USB-midi will not work as you want.
IF you want to use audacity to record YOU MUST connect your CASIO into line in of your computer, as:
Casio Line Out/Headphones Out -> Line In of you computer soundcard
Then open Audacity, press RECORD button and start playing.
To use USB-midi to do something like this, you will need softwares like PIANOTEQ, IVORY, and others because when you connect your Casio by USB it will send just MIDI signals and this is not SOUND its DATA (information) and that´s why you need a particular software to transform the DATA into MUSIC.

As virtu implies, the USB signal does not carry any sound. Instead, it only captures your "keystrokes". There's simply no sound there for Audacity to record. And, as virtu says, you'll have to hook it up using analog audio connections.
The Casio web pages doesn't show a line output connection for the piano. Not good. But you can use the headphone output instead.
Since you have a laptop, you probably don't have a line input connection. You probably have a microphone input, though. Unfortunately, that will likely be mono, not stereo. And the input sensitivity is appropriate only for a microphone, not for the line output or headphone output of your piano.
So you're stuck. You'll have to get a cable that takes the stereo headphone output from the piano (probably a 1/4" plug), convert it to mono, reduce the signal level by a factor of about 1000, and feed that to the laptop's mic input (probably a 1/8" plug).
All in all, this stinks.
Unless I'm wrong about the lack of a line output, this piano is not well suited for analog audio recording.
And unless you add a sound card to your laptop, it's not suitable for stereo recording. (It's a shame ... even the cheapest desktop computer with the cheapest sound card would work fine in stereo.)

First of all check if you have LINE IN into your soundcard (some new notebooks have MIC IN and LINE IN into same jack and via software you can change which one you want to use).
So after that you have some ways to make a video like the link that you post, let´s see some ways:
1st is using the built in music recorder and the same time that you are recording you can rec the video. After all recorded, put it together (video + music) with a video edition software. (this way you will have the best quality sound recorded and be sure that the video camera is with her mic off).
2nd is using the headphones out connect to line in of your computer, record the music at the same time that you are recording the video, and after that mix it up.
In both suggestion you must pay attention to sync everything fine (video and sound) to avoid some lags.
And... the simple way... just put a video camera in a tripod, focus you and the keyboard, smile and play rec. =)

Unfortunately, my laptop doesn't have a line in port. About your first method, I used the recorder from my Casio to record a track. When I export the track file from Casio to computer, it's in .csr format. I don't think I can put this file + my video file as one. Do you know if there's a way to connect headphone out from my casio px-130 to my microphone in on my laptop to record?

This is probably the best solution. Not sure, though, whether this interface can handle the piano's headphone output. But there's a fair chance it will. Then later to import the video from your camera and sync the audo in you editor. There doesn't seem to be any camera here. So would Pianotech be a software virtual instrument to create sound? That would work. But it might not be worth the bother. You have to spend $99 for the Pianoteq software. Then you'll have to fiddle with the ASIO interface. Then you'll have to put up with the sound quality issues. All in all ... I think the external audio interface is the best bet for you. Simplest. Cheapest. Least hassle.
