Mehldau played with Larry Grenadier (bass) and Jeff Ballard (drums). I'm not sure what more to say except that it was some of the best music I've heard. With respect to his recordings, there are some I love, some I like and some I'm not so crazy about. When he's on, as he was for my taste, it's as good as piano playing gets.

I saw him play solo at Merkin Hall in Carnegie a couple of years ago and it was of the all-time great nights of playing IMO.

I saw him in Chicago too. It was fantastic. I admit though that I really miss Jorge Rossy's drumming in that band. There was something more elastic about the music. I still loved the show on Sunday though. Brad Mehldau's playing always leaves me wanting to run to a piano and play right after. OT: I was playing piano just before Mehldau on the Jackson stage with Brad Goode's band. You didn't happen to catch any of our set?

I absolutely saw Brad Goode's set, and the band, and you, we absolutely terrific. You guys played with fire, both individually and collectively. It was a nice contrast to first hear the more experimental Nicole Mitchell, followed by a great, but more traditional, swinging band. If you couldn't tell on stage, by the way, I was not alone; the crowd loved your set.

Thanks jjo. It was my first time playing the Chicago Jazz Fest and it was a great experience all around. We also did a gig that morning at the Jazz Record Mart with Ira Sullivan and Ari Brown. Ira is one amazing dude. He's 79 years and I hope I've got his energy and musical fire at 40! I hope to be back next year. Maybe we can say hi in person.
cheers, Adrean
