Just discovered this very cool contemporary piano music. It's from a french film composer named Alexandre Desplat - most notable for composing music to the 'Twilight' movies. In fact, this piece is from the film 'New Moon.'
What I like about this music is how he creates a simple theme, uses the principles of repetion and contrast to create a pleasing whole. I think the piece starts out in A harmonic minor and modulates to major. The form is sectional (although I haven't completely analyzed it yet) but here we have new and modern music that many enjoy.
What I really like is that younger generations are getting exposed to this kind of piano music via popular films like the 'Twilight' series.

You can call it whatever you want, I think its a nice piece, and its so easy most of us could play it our first try. Thanks for posting it .

Currently working on: Perfecting the Op 2/1, studying the 27/2 last movement. Chopin Nocturne 32/2 and Posth. C#m, 'Raindrop' prelude and Etude 10/9 Repetoire: Beethoven op 2/1, 10/1(1st, 2nd), 13, 14/1, 27/1(1st, 2nd), 27/2, 28(1st, 2nd), 31/2(1st, 3rd), 49/1, 49/2, 78(1st), 79, 90, 101(1st)
This piece reminds me of something else, but i can't think what.....
I quite enjoy this kind of music; where it reflects a particular "scene" or emotion, but i think Uematsu's the best for that sort of thing! He just paints beautiful pictures with sound!!

Blargh, twilight. Never thought I'd read about that film here, of all places. The less the younger generation is exposed to that series, the better - even if they played Chopin etudes as the film score.

I will wait for the explosion of bad renditions of this piece all over youtube But I'm sure anyone teaching adolescent girls will end up teaching this piece. Just like Bella's Lullaby from the first film. I wonder how long it will take for one of my students to bring the music along just 'dying' to learn it

It reminds me of this, and many other things actually:

Well, it's taken me considerably more than one try, but I've been working up this piece for a while and really like it. But it does seem a better fit for AB forum than here in the pianist corner.
I think any music that makes young kids line up to learn to play it is a good thing. It's better than having them drop piano completely because they're bored with what they've been assigned.
can't one have a contest in barfing? better than playing Chopin's études as fast as possible, or other not so 'classical' sounds, once won a prize at a ...contest, no, stop, this is going too far!

Yes, but here we have a living composer whose music is inspring young people to play piano. How bad can that be?
That's like saying that any book is good that gets kids to want to read. What if it is a totally bad book that just gives them a taste for bad books...how does that benefit them in any way?

Are you saying this is totally bad music? Actually, some of the books I treasured as a child were pretty poor quality, but somehow they gave me a vision of something, which led me on to seek out other books.
