Are you saying this is totally bad music? Actually, some of the books I treasured as a child were pretty poor quality, but somehow they gave me a vision of something, which led me on to seek out other books.

Oh no, sorry, I wasn't saying anything about this piece, just about that statement. And maybe I'm wrong too, it's just something I have wondered.

So far, I have not been impressed by the Twilight franchise. This piece, I'm afraid, doesn't do the vampire genre any justice. At all.

Please don't call something this cliche 'new and modern'.

Yeah ... but it is new. In fact, it was written in 2009 I think. If you're talking about the style of the piece, what would you have him write?

I can't believe that music that simple still manages to have some out-of-place unisons in the accompaniment figure for a few measures, starting at measure 20.

I don't get why vampires are more interesting than lots of other folkloric creatures, either. Maybe it is all Anne Rice's fault. But there has been some interest in them for a quite a while. There's even a 1828 vampire opera by Marschner with some pretty good music in it.

+1

I like it. I can see this being very popular with young folks and peak an interest in playing. That is a good thing! I would find this very gratifying to play as an adult beginner too. Thank you for posting.

You're right...age has nothing to do with it. It's all about taste. Some people have excellent taste and others...well...their taste sucks.

Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, Schumann, Schubert, Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, Scriabin, Scarlatti, Handel, Rameau, Debussy, Ravel, etc. You get the picture, I'm sure.

I wish contemporary composers would study the older composers a little more. At least they'd think up a little more than just predictable diatonic progressions. It just seems like our progress has gone backwards. It has nothing to do with comparing classical to other genres. It's just the overall quality has decreased. It's structurally bland, harmonically elementary, melodically directionless and texturally undaring.

Is it a nice tune? Sure, but it could be a heck of allot better. Otherwise all it is IS a little "tune" rather than a fully developed work of art. When I see sheet music like that, the first thing I think is "inexperienced ameature." I'm not very prejudice (in my eyes) and I usually give everything a chance. Nonetheless, that's my perspective. They have no musical identity. I'll tell you right now, I could whip up a piece like that in 20 minutes.

It's funny because I was thinking of exploring the film score industry. I'm not sure whether or not it'll be extremely difficult or extremely easy. Either they'll reject or inexoribly welcome a new idea.

Yes. For the ordinary, non-musician people whose ear isn't very well trained. We need more than just that, or we simply can't enjoy it.. At one point it becomes almost meaningless. Hey, it's not our fault, studying classical music intensely for however many years (17 in my case) can do that to you, easily.

That having said, I enjoy other good music; I love jazz (Keith Jarrett is a god), Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd.. I just don't like many tacky works.

Oh, I totally agree with you. I don't think age has anything to do with it either. What I meant to say was that I could see it being appealing to the younger generation because it is on the Twilight soundtrack and therefore getting a lot of youth exposure.
