Hi,
I've had a Yamaha P-80 digital piano for a while now and am wondering if it is outdated or not. In other words are the newer models much better in terms of sound and action (touch) or not really?
What would be a recommended model for replacing the P-80?

The key action on the P80 is the same as in many of Yamaha's better current pianos. You'd have nothing to gain in terms of touch by upgrading. OK an exception is if yu liked the keys in the new CP1/5. That is the only key action upgrade Yamaha has for you.

The P80 sound is not up to Yamaha's best current models. But you can fix that by using a computer and a virtual instrument. The current state of the art in sound is with software now

The P-80 was introduced in 1999, which is an eternity for DP sound, but not terribly long as far as keyboard actions go. You can get a triple sensor now that can help with note repeats, and fake "ivory feel", and fake escapement I suppose, but nothing all that earth-shattering.

In terms of updated sound, like ChrisA says, PC samplers are leading the way. For built-in sound, the Roland SuperNATURAL piano sound is something you should try. If you can find the latest Kawai DPs in your area you might want to try those too.

It means he approves of or agrees with the previous post by ChrisA.

He is saying that you asked an easy enough question that everyone will say the same answer. He is counting himself as just "one more" saying the same thing.
