I am considering buying this piano as my first piano (digital or acoustic). I am a beginner. From what I've read and felt ,it seems that touch is really important and it can't be upgraded whereas sound can (via external amplifier and loudspeakers and/or via computer software). I liked this piano's touch. It lacks line -out connections but does have headphone sockets. Is any one successfully using a headphone socket on this piano to send the signal to external loudspeakers? Unlike the manual of the Casio PX 130, for example, the CN23 manual does not mention this possibility.
Thank you for considering this question.
-Clarke

I'd love to know the answer to this question too as I'm planning to purchase a Kawai CN23 soon and would like to know if this option is possible on it. smile

If the only audio output it has is a headphone jack and you want to amplify it, I personally would look elsewhere.

You can however run a stereo jack from the headphone socket to an amplifier but where a normal line level output is matched to an amplifier's line level input, the headphone socket is strictly not. Although it would sort of work, the headphone output is the direct output from a headphone amplfier built in to the piano itself so it's an amplified output which is running the speakers inside the headphones.

Many years ago, I used to use headphone outputs to send to an amplifier and if you get the level right, you can get away with it. It's electrically not a good idea though and it will sound odd at the best of times.

Regards. Rimmer
