Some of you read my earlier post regarding the steinway pianos that I was going to see. They were nice pianos but my husband and I decided that we are not the restorer types and with pianos 100 years old something would need to be redone at some point and I just wanted a piano that I wouldn't have to worry about.

So, on Saturday I went to the Kawai dealership to buy the RX-2, and decided to get an RX-3 instead! To me, the difference in sound was worth the extra money. I am thrilled that the search is over. I think I got a great deal, am so happy with the dealer, and got a piano that will suit me forever.

The piano comes tomorrow!! Thanks to everyone here for your advice. Checking this board has become part of my daily routine, so I'm sure I will still be frequenting this place. Hope to help others with their journeys...as that's what it really is.

MM

Congratulations, mathmom! I don't know much about the Kawais, but this is a special time for you.

Wishing you many, many years of enjoyment of this welcome new addition to your family.

Excellent choice. Those extra 8cm make a significant improvement in the quality of the sound.
I have a Kawai RX3 and it is a delightful piano.
Congratulations!

Thanks, everyone!

I got the polished ebony. It's supposed to be really easy to take care of, and as I have children that is a concern for me. Hopefully it will really be as easy as they say.

I will post pics when it comes this afternoon. I can't even bear to sit down at my old console this morning...

The last one shows the height of the ceiling. They are 14' high. The room is long and skinny.

Beautiful! Must sound pretty nice with tall ceilings and carpet. Be sure to avoid direct sunlight.

Congratulations! Kawai RX-2 and RX-3 grands were always on my list as potential choices, and I think they are nice pianos, well-built and reliable. My wife and I also ended up spending more than we thought on a nicer piano than what we had expected to buy.

I second or third the sunlight thing- it can apparently really affect finishes, etc. over time. I was told by our tech to get full window shades before moving the piano into the final location. BTW, did you happen to go to Baldassin Pianos as well? We found a couple gems there that surprised us among the Faziolis and Schimmels.

Wow! That's some great looking granite. Looks like some fun scrambling.

And the piano ain't bad neither.
