Great father and son moment!

After my son's piano lesson, we noticed the Steinway Hamburg D was all alone on stage at MachPhail Center for Music. It's a magnificent piano and I couldn't resist playing it!

So we popped (snuck) in and my son shot this video of me playing the opening of the second movement - Romance. This footage is raw, shot using an iPhone and spontaneous from the point of view of a 7 year old. My son had my phone on him because earlier I let him pay some games on it. This piece is still a work in progress:)

Not the most flattering camera angles at times;)

Very nice Phillip! Lovely music, isn't it?

I look forward to hearing you play the complete work with an orchestra some day... who knows?! smile

Good picture and surprisingly good sound quality from the iPhone - well done to your son too! thumb

Philip -

The Chopin is coming along quite nicely !! (And I didn't get too seasick watching the hand-held camera.)

Its very touching that you and your young son share a love for piano music. You're a lucky guy.

Best -

Phil

That was fabulous - both the piano playing and that camera work. I love sharing music with my kiddos too.

My kids go to MacPhail. The stage/piano set up there is excellent!

Very nice, indeed, Philip! You play expressively, without a doubt. And if your son could stand still for a moment, he'd be a great cameraman. :o)

I too am stunned by the iPhone's sound.

Great little video.
Despite me despising anything made by Apple I must admit that the video and audio quality of that iPhone was impressive.

Now if only you could cut down your kid's coffee intake.

Keep the spontaneity coming! And keep sharing these moments with him.

Yeah, and I need to get one of those gadgets.

Wow, thanks everyone for the supportive comments!

And it was filmed and recorded on the iPhone 3Gs - I just purchased the iPhone4 with way better video, we'll have to see if the sound quality is good as well.

I am shocked at the enthusiasm on the sound quality from a group as discriminating and well-informed as all of you - amazing opportunities to capture and share spontaneous moments.

And thanks for the comments on my playing, really put a lift in my step today.

Phil
