I'm equally a musician/writer- I've been writing books as long as I've been writing music:

(scroll down to read four of my out-of-print books)

Most people I know who write music are also creative in other areas. Some paint, some draw, a few build and restore furniture, a few are photographers.

In many cases you can't say that one discipline is the vocation and the other(s) an avocation. Some people are just multidisciplined.

So, what do you do besides compose, and does your music and/or the other thing(s) you do affect one another? For example, I find that writing devices and musical devices are often interchangeable, or that I'll be composing or thinking of music in my head while I'm writing, and vice-versa.

If you have a link to something else you do, share so we can see you at work at other things.

Wow Apple! Those are really beautiful paintings. Is that New York City in the background(the pic on the far right)?

Apart from music, I like to paint and to write (mainly poetry and puzzles, rarely also short stories), and also to take photographs...
I recently also got into sculpting.

It's supposed to be Chicago.. (milky way over Chicago)

i had a photo of the skyline that i was copying, but added to it, to add more buildings.

Aside from my interest in music, I'm very interested in philosophy. I'm doing a philosophy minor in College, with an emphasis in religion. I do a lot of philosophical writing, although I have never tried to promote my work with thinking and religion, since I want to be thought of as a musician/composer. I also am involved in mathematics, although many times that ends up being a more analytical process than a creative one.

I like painting and poetry although i'm not very good at either. I'm okay at woodwork though! I've always wanted to make a film where music depicts the scenes, like the old black and white movies.

Philosophy and maths, not once but twice! Make it three times, because I took some philosophy and physics in university. Maybe it's not such an odd combo, to go with music, as I've always thought?

Piano and music are very new to me. Where I feel I really shine is in my photography. I have had several solo exhibitions in the NY/NJ/PA area as well as had many pieces selected in juried competitions. I look forward to the time when my creative level in piano approaches that of my picture-making. Feel free to visit my website to see some of my work: www.TLphoto.net.

It isn't actually an odd combo at all! Fields of study such as philosophy and mathematics are pursued alongside music much more commonly than I would have thought. I figured I'd be the only composition/math/philosophy student when I got to college... Boy was I wrong! Tons of people do it.
