It was inspired by Islamey, so is it just as, if not more, difficult? Has anyone here played this?

I've read through it many times in slow-motion, because it is so much fun. It doesn't have any of the double-note stuff that Islamey has, so to me, it seems easier just because of that. But then, how much that matters would depend on how you feel about double-note stuff. But there are other difficulties - it is a tough piece, but it is very well-written and quite "pianistic" for the most part.

Sure sounds Russian. Like a combination of Balakirev and Borodin.

I played it a lot in the past, but never properly finished it. It's a piece that I really want to go back to sometime. There are just a few spots which are extremely hard, although it's generally rather pleasantly pianistic.

I played both Islamey and Lesghinka, both fantastic pieces, Lyapunov was kinder to the pianist, though I think the difficulty is in the name of the collection: d'exécution transcendante, rightly so!

all the rest of Lyapunov's études, his sonata!!!!!Stravinsky: 3 mouvements de Pétrouchka, Prokofiev: sonatas, any of the first 8, Medtner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Roslavets wrote some mystical pieces, Glazunov 2 sonatas, 1 big Valse de concert, a very good 'theme and variations', and about the rest, well, no need to comment.
