I just added two more ditties to my web site recorded from the AvantGrand N3 ...

East of the Sun ... I've Got Rhythm

They're not absolutely flawless but I'm afraid I'm don't have enough time for absolute perfection. Enjoy.

Really enjoy your playing Dave. Thanks for sharing. East of the Sun is such a great tune.

Lovely warm sound. Also, it's only just dawned on me now that the A.G uses samples from a CF series piano (yes?) In that Keyboard Mag "roundtable" video clip they have the A.G next to a C7, so they're comparing two different types of pianos. ;^) (I realise that they also said the C7 hammers were very worn/hard) Being someone with cheap pop-music taste in pianos, though, I generally prefer the brighter sound of the C7.

Greg.

Very nice playing Dave! I envy people that can play like that, as I'm such a beginner frown

I don't know if it has been talked before, but for how many years do you play the piano and how did you learn? Are you a professional pianist or an amateur?

I hope some day I'll be able to play like that, but I'm 37 and started playing just 2 years ago, so I think it will not be easy...

Congratulations again on your great playing.

Best regards.

Thanks for the comments guys!

I don't know if it has been talked before, but for how many years do you play the piano and how did you learn? Are you a professional pianist or an amateur?

I started out on accordion for a few months when I was 12 or 13. That was close, that could have turned into my instrument.

I switched to organ when I was 13 or so (a Thomas spinet) and my father bought me a Hammond B3 when I was 16 or 17 (back in 1966 or 1967). I was a church organist when I was 15 or so. I went to Temple College of Music as a classical organ major (another close call) and switched to theory\comp in my third year. All the time I went to college I was working weekends playing B3 in various groups.

I bought a new Yamaha 48" upright in 1971 and taught myself piano. I'm guessing most people who play pop\jazz teach themselves piano by listening to other players. I've only had 20 to 30 formal lessons on the piano and they were all classically slanted. I should add that I had excellent theory and keyboard harmony training while at Temple (and have Dr. John Johnson to thank for that).

I've always worked playing professionally. (I define professionally as taking money for playing. If you play for free, you're an amateur.) When I was 16 or 17 I was working weekends regularly with musicians who were in the 40's and 50's. They forced me to learn tunes and forced me to learn to listen to them. It was an education ... and it paid well.

I auditioned for a big band piano slot in a military band when I was 24, was accepted, and spent 20 years in the military where they essentially paid me to practice. I learned how to sight read very well during my incarceration. We had a library of over 2,000 charts and I played most of them. It was a good life for the most part. It was a paid vacation for 20 years.

David - is this you? ;^)

Nope, there's a few Dave Horne's on the planet. I'm not that guy. There are other DH's who are also musicians. Small world.
