DO not miss Daniel Barenboim and Thomas Quasthoff's Winterreise, playing for free for a few more days (?) on medici.tv. Fantastic..

If you are not familiar with it, medici.tv is a website that has a treasure trove of old and new video performances and documentaries of classical music performances, mostly from Europe's main festivals. They also have documentaries (Monsaingeon, Gould, etc). You can subscribe or download a video on par per view. However they always have a selection you can listen to continuously at no cost. The selections vary but the quality (sound and video) is superb. You do need to register (ie provide an email). I highly recommend it.

I agree that no Lieder lover should miss this performance, a true and heartfelt collaboration of two exceptional artists doing what they do best!

Thanks for the link!

Regards,

Andromaque,

Thank you so much for putting me onto Medici.tv. It's a wonderful thing to know about. I got involved with a Mendelssohn octet, which was great, and so haven't figured out how to get to the Questhoff/Barenboim Winterreise yet. Hoffully I'll reach my Quest next. Ya, ya, I had to reach for it. Seriously, thank you.

Tomasino

You are welcome.
You will find Winterreise in the "playlist". When you get on the site, you will see multiple tabs, eg Live, VOD, medici.tv etc. Click on the Playlist tab, and you will see a list of the current "free" offerings. Winterreise is no.6. The list changes every soem days and some of its offerings go into the VOD pool where they can still be viewed for a fee. Not sure how long Winterreise will be on the playlist. While you are there check out Pollini's Beethoven's fourth concerto..
Last week, I caught David Fray's documentary on Bach. Very interesting..

Bruce, Tomasino,
May I suggest you also look at the performance of the Soloists of the Atelier Lyrique de l'Opera National de Paris. There are some gorgeous songs by Ginastera, Mompou, Guastavino and Beethoven's six Scottish, Irish and Welsh melodies. I was completely unfamiliar with the latter. They are charming and not very Beethovenesque!!
If you do listen, let us know what you think.
