As in my signature (I will change it soon), I was going to replace my FP7 and finally I bought the new piano!

Yes, it's not so new really, beeing the old GEM Promega 3 ! grin

Actually, I'm waiting it to arrive.

I had the chance to try it quickly in the past but what really convinced me are the numerous demos on GEM site.

Here is an example. It sounds unbelievably authentic to me, doesn't it?!

whome

Congratulations, Qbert! The Promega 3 is a beast!!! You'll be up there with the likes of Rick Wakeman as fellow users.

As a Prp800 owner, I'm a big GEM fan. I played the Promega 3 once and was in awe - it's a fabulous machine. Good luck with it, and please post your thoughts once you receive it.

Congratulations on your new piano.

The "Finale" is truly beautiful. Sounds like it might be one of Schubert's impromptus. Yes?

The piano sounds great also. Thanks for sharing the info.

Sounds as if a talented player explores the circle of fifth's with some arpeggios and starting with F major ;-)

It sounds beautiful and to me it sounds better than any supernatural Roland piano examples I have heard. Ok, keyoff and such stuff is missing, but that doesnt disturb....

Yes, that's exactly what I think too.

Who is interested, here is another demo about DRAKE technology.

It's a video where PROMEGA 3 is DIRECTLY compared with a REAL grand piano! I've never watched such a challenge from other brands!

Nice video-comparison and congratulations on your purchase, Qbert! smile

I just pressed a few of the same notes with and without damper pedal on my CA93 and concluded that, when playing live, the acoustic piano in the demo sounds very similar to my Blended Concert Grandeur R2.0 dual voice mode preset for the CA93/CA63.

Although there's no video footage available a.f.a.i.k., in this in-depth review, the Kawai CA93 is directly compared to an acoustic Kawai RX2, concluding there is hardly any acoustic difference, mainly thanks to UPHI and the spruce soundboard:

I've had GEM stuff in the past. What would worry me is what support might be out there if there should ever be a problem - I thought the company had gone tits-up. And I do think there is a tendency for General Music stuff to be unreliable. Whilst I totally agree the Pro-Mega is a beast (in a good way!), like any old Italian car (lovely ideas, poorly executed), it is a breakdown waiting to happen.

But good luck with it - the DRAKE technology was some way ahead of its time when launched.

Cheers,

Steve
