Just read about the rumors, that really sucks and fantom G customers would be left with far from perfect OS on this board...

Not really sure, but I do know that NAMM '11 is around the corner. I also know that the G7 was discontinued, but Yamaha too doesn't seem to be releasing a Motif XF7 anytime soon. Anyway I was looking into a Fantom G6, but I think I'll wait until after NAMM. While the G6 is a great instrument and I love the possibilities of the ARX concept, I have a feeling that Roland will "upgrade" the Fantom G line and fix the OS problems and include SuperNatural Pianos (and possibly EPs) standard. If they continue with the ARX line I can see an Organ modeling and VA ARX soon to be released, because of what is already out there. Remember the RD700-NX has SuperNatural AP's and EP's included. The VP770 vocal and ensemble keyboard has the ARX 3 Brass included. The AX synth has SuperNatural VA technology in it and the VR700 of course has the VK organ modeling. It's only logical that they include SuperNatural AP's and EP's in the next generation Fantom (which is their flagship workstation) and if they are still making ARX cards, Organ and Vare probably next. But of course I could be wrong, but the current crop of ARX boards are dropping in price wink

Like I said I know that NAMM '11 is coming up and I think that Roland is going to annouce some kind of Fantom G upgrade, even though Roland claims that they won't. We'll see.

Posted @ rolandclan, FYI:
"This is absolutely not true. Where did you find this statement (on which forum)?

Our Fantom synthesizers are still top notch in their product category and we don’t have any intention to stop the production of this instrument.

It is, however, true that the product of the Fantom-G7 has stopped, but only the G7 – the other two models (G6 and G8) will continue to be produced!

Kind regards,

Wim

Yep, I'm part of the Rolandclan forums as well and read the same exact message. That's great, but I have a feeling Roland will still be either upgrading the Fantom G or creating a totally new workstation while still "producing" the Fantom G somewhat like the continued production of the GX with the release of the NX. It was funny because I was told by a Roland rep that the GX was staying around for awhile (hinting at no successor for a while) and that is why they upgraded (user upgrade $$$) it with the SuperNatural AP board. Then a couple of months down the road, I heard rumors of the NX and finally the info was released. I take what I hear from Roland (and all other manufacturers) employees with a grain of salt.

It's all about scheduling and keeping up with the competition (Yamaha, currently) While the Fantom G is a good workstation, to be competitive with the Motif XF it needs to have Roland's flagship sounds with presets that show them off properly all ready there. Funny, because all Roland would have to do, is include the ENTIRE SRX library with SuperNatural AP's (you can get the SuperNatural EP's with the current ARX-02) Remember the Motif XF has over 741mb of rom while the current Fantom G has 256mb. The entire SRX collection would add up to 768mb. That with the ARX slots would make a very competitive workstation to the Motif XF with it's 741mb and flash ram expansion. Plus I still prefer Roland's intuitive interface and sequencing functions, as well as the mouse connectivity.

The game will continue, where these companies will go back and forth trying to stay ahead the other. Like I said, expect something next year from Roland in the workstation department. Whether it is the successor to the Fantom G or a totally new workstation. I'm not trying to come off as a wise-a$#, but it's just logical and it's about to hit the 3 year mark. Roland typically like Yamaha, does not exceed 3 years for their flagship workstations. With the discounted prices on Fantom G's as well as ARX cards, I strongly feel that something new is coming from Roland.
