Hello,

I like the "Digiscore" training features included in the new roland HPi-7F (the one with the big 10" LCD than can display scores), but I won't buy this piano.

So I would like to find a software that, when connected to the MIDI IN-OUT of my EP, can offer the same features on a PC or iPAD that will sit on top of the piano:

- Record what is played (what my teacher play) and display it as scores
- When I play a displayed score (just recorded or from MIFI files) the software follow my playing and display when I make tempo or note mistakes.
- The software can play the accompaniment of the midi file and let me play the piano part. Or even play one hand and let me play the other.
- I can reduce the tempo of a midi file and try to play it, with the software still showing my mistakes
- since the software "know where I am"thanks to the midi connection, it can turn pages for me.
-...

Does this exist ?

thanks

New GarageBand from Apple has a similar feature, but the number of lessons is very limited.
Home Concert Xtreme for Mac and Windows has a follow mode (similar to Yamaha CVP and YDP education function).

These are what I found. None of them are competitive to HPi, though I wouldn't say the DigiScore is perfect. But it is still the best, I use it a lot for practicing.

I will be very interested if you could élaborate on the facty that you use it for practicing. Some people say it is a gadget ! What are the DigiScore training feature that you use most ? How do you use them ? Do you record your own lessons or use the built in ?

When I get a new song from my teacher I scan it and convert it to midi via Musitek Smartscore Songbook edition. It takes only 5 minutes per page. (Songbook edition is needed because some midi events need to be changed to work nicely with HPi pianos.)

Then I copy the midi to the piano and partice the hands separately first slow and then fast speeds until my DigiScore score is 100%. Then I do the same with both hands simultaneously. As a lazy guy I find the scoring very convenient, because I cant just say I'm done until it is not done.

However I don't use the screen for reading the notes during playing because digiscore notation is not very good quality. I use the original printed notation as it has much more information, like repetition signs, staccato, etc. and also because it is used during the lessons.

The screen is very good though to find my errors (with the comparison feature) which I dont always remember and also for visually go through the notation and finding/setting up specific parts of the song to practice. (You can set start and end measures for practicing.)

The most annoying feature of Digiscore it does not remember the setups between lessons.

I looked at Home Concert Xtreme. It is a good one. Thanks a lot kishonti.

But there are 3 things that I did not understood well:

1 - It seems that you cannot record the 2 hands at the same time ? To record it, will my teacher have to play two times the exercise that he has prepared for me (generaly a silmplified version of a well known song)

2 - When you play the score and do a mistake, it just stop & wait !?. Can it instead let us play but mark (put a red note on the score) the notes that were played wrong or with wrong tempo (like Roland's DigiScore), and then give you a % of achievement (from 0% :-( to 100 % :-) )

3 - Can I exercice only one hand (the software play the other for me), and then the other, and then ... booth ?

thanks in advance

Anyone know a similar software for iPAD ? (or for tablet PC)

But there are 3 things that I did not understood well:

1. That's why I scan and convert to midi.
2. Home Concert Xtreme is not in the same league as DigiScore. No scoring and error noting.
3. I haven't tried that on Xtreme.

Exist? yes. If you have an Apple Mac most of the features you describe come pre-installed. All Macs ship with Garage Band. The software does about 100 other things you didn't ask for too such as general purpose recording and editing of audio and many features for guitar players and music producers

Click the video at the top of this page.
