If you own a piano, you may one day find yourself having to replace piano legs that have become lost or irreparably damaged in a move. While a piano maker or carpenter may be able to craft a new set of piano legs, you may save yourself money by making them yourself as a DIY project. These steps will help you build new piano legs to last.

Tools and Materials Needed:

■Tape measure
■Power saw
■Sandpaper
■4 Wood pieces
■Socket set
■Paint or varnish
■Paint brush
■Working gloves
■Goggles
■Screw drivers
■Assistant

Step 1 - Cut the Wood Pieces
Using a tape measure, precisely measure the length of the legs that you want for the legs of your piano. Transfer the measurements to each of four pieces of wood. Once you are satisfied with the length of the wood that you will be using as piano legs, cut to size with a power saw. Always wear goggles and a pair of work gloves to protect your eyes and fingers when using the saw.

Step 2 - Sand the Cut Area
Once you are done cutting the wood for the piano legs, make sure that you smooth the area where you just made a cut using sandpaper. You need to get rid of uneven edges, and bits and pieces of wood. This step is necessary to prep the legs for painting and mounting later.

Step 3 - Paint the Piano Legs
You need to paint your piano legs with your desired color. As much as possible, when it comes to selecting the color to use for your piano legs, choose the color that is close to the color of the rest of the piano’s body. On the other hand, you can also become creative by using different colors for your piano legs. Let the paint dry up before you install the piano legs to the body.

Step 4 - Install The Piano Legs
For this process, ask the help of a family member to help you install the piano legs. Carefully, turn the piano sideways so that you can work with the instrument properly. Use the socket set to attach the piano legs to the base of the piano. Ask a friend to hold the piano legs properly while you work with the socket set and the piano. Once you are done, place the piano in an upright position carefully.
