This is something I wrote a while back but I never got round to declaring it complete. I can't remember what else I was planning to do to it so I think it's time to post it. Here's the link -

I welcome your comments and criticism.

I think you had a nice melodic idea going now if I can do some constructive sharing.....I've learned that chords do not have their best sound in a root position below C3....that would be the C below middle C....things just sound 'muddy' that low...my ear definitely hears that sound.

not sure if you will find that helpful.

Thanks rada, that's the kind of constructive criticism I'm looking for.

Nice!

I think your piece could benefit from some clearer 'story'. Something that the piece works to. Also should help bringing in more dynamics.

BTW IMHO the piece sounds way too solid for "midnight", at which time I usually am sleeping wink

Thanks for the comments wouter79 - the name came because I came up with the idea for the first 20 measures or so around midnight one night - usually I am not up that late. Your comment about needing a story is a good one - it seemed that the piece more or less wrote itself sequentially while I was sitting in front of a keyboard but it would benefit from looking at the piece as a whole and then chopping out some sections and adding others so that there was more of a story line.

Yes. With "story line" I also wanted to suggest that there is some "event", "climax", or "hurdle" which is taken. There are good and bad steps. Ups and downs. That makes the music/story more interesting.

This is in the "Ragtime" category.

Pick up the tempo just a bit and transpose up about four half-steps.

Regards,

Interesting that you would suggest transposing up four half steps. At one time I experimented with raising it 3 half steps to C minor but it didn't fall under the fingers as easily so I left it where it was.
