1) Anger - Copland Piano Variations
2) Love - Morgen! by Richard Strauss (piano/voice version)
3) Sadness - 2nd mvt of Ravel Concerto in G
4) Heartbreak - Rachmaninoff moments musicaux No. 4
5) Happiness - Finale from Haydn Symphony no. 104

For #3, I can't really tell if the piece is sad or not. It's what I like to listen to when I'm sad.

I don't know if you'll get any consensus since there is a lot of music out there. I think if you take a subset of the pieces mentioned by posters here, and then ask people to choose from that list the 5 categories (2nd round of the game?) there might be some consensus. I tried to ask this question of gooddog just a few days ago because I wanted to know what piece of music went with her ecstatic smiley post.

Speaking of consensus, putting Copland Piano Variations for Anger is the first piece I've wanted to disagree with. I think it corresponds with something else not on the list.

and I have to disagree with Rachmaninoff Moment Musical 4 as a heartbreak piece.... for me there's actually something triumphant in that piece

That was my first thought, but I went for a piano selection instead. Even the great Liszt couldn't emulate the magic of such music on a single instrument.

I think this came from variations 14 to the end. The beginning variations don't really correspond with anger. What do you think piece corresponds with?

Anger: Chopin Revolutionary Etude
Love: Schumann - Trumerei
Sadness: Schubert : Winterreise - Der Leiermann ( I think this piece is really sad + the lyrics are also sad)
Heartbreak: Tchaikovsky: Romance in F minor
Happiness: Weber: Rondo

I think there are many others i would like to add to the list, but those are the ones i could think of from the top of my head smile - Again Der Leiermann is a MUST hear, if you haven't before!

To me, more defiant/triumphant/[something like that] than angry.
