Hello, I am a Mama of a 6 year old that wants to learn the piano. I am thrilled but as a novice to the instrument, I do not have any background to know what is really good or not. We have found this Wurlitzer with a serial # of 625052 and I would like to get anyone smarter than me's opinions of what is a price to offer to get a great deal and what is a reasonable/fair price given the age which we guess is 55 years old. Also, Is there anything I should look out for that could be a problem? Thank you in advance!

I sold a Wurlitzer piano like this for $375 a few years ago, although it was 40 years old, not 55.

A piano that old you definitely need to have checked out first. Mine had a light action, so that would be okay for a six year old. They are serviceable instruments.

Hi, Amy, and welcome to the PW forums!

I suppose something is worth what a buyer is willing to pay and a seller is willing to accept. I share your excitement in finding a good used piano for you child, but I honestly think the price is a little high for that piano by the time you pay to have it moved and tuned.

I agree with gryphon, $375 seems more in line.

Good luck!!

Rick

Exactly. Remember, a piano is like a pet, especially a used one. You'll spend more money on its care and maintenance than you will in its purchase. You'll spends hundreds to move it. Then you'll spend about $100 (or more, depending on where you live) to tune it twice a year. Even having it inspected could cost you $100. And for a piano this old it's money well spent.

I think you should keep looking. There is a Kimball console on that Craigslist, asking $400, which could be a better piano, but I bet if you look a while, something even better will come along.

"How much should I offer for this Wurlitzer?"

Nothing. Keep looking.

This is too old--- try to find something less than 15 years old--- and was never much of a musical instrument, even when new. You can do better.
