We own a Bush & Gerts (Chicago) upright. We have the serial number, but don't know how to get the age and value. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The Pierce Piano Atlas lists serial numbers for Bush & Gerts pianos from 1 - 75000, going from 1884 to 1942.

What is the serial number of your piano? One of us with Pierce will probably be able to tell you the year of manufacture.

The value of the piano will depend totally on the condition of the piano, and only a piano technician can determine the condition. The value may vary somewhat depending on the market in your area, but you can be fairly well assured that there is not much market for old upright pianos and, hence, not much value in them. There is always the occasional exception to this generalization, however, but those exceptions are rare.

According to Pierce Piano Atlas, Bush & Gerts, serial 18755, was manufactured in 1898. I would doubt that an upright this old would have much value. Others more familiar with the brand name than I am, however, may have a different opinion, although any worth of the piano would be almost totally dependent upon its condition. That cannot be determined by brand name and serial number alone.

Thank you so much for the information. I can't believe it's survived this long. It was brought to Mississippi from a brothel in New Orleans. What a history that piano could tell! All of the keys work, but is in dire need of a tune up. The only thing I can tell about the condition is that it needs a good cleaning and two keys need ivory replaced. Do you know of anyone familiar with this brand that I could contact?

You might start by contacting a piano dealer in your area or check in your local Yellow Pages for a piano tuner/technician. Failing that, check this website for a technician in your area :

Condition, meaning condition of the internal parts (wood, leather, felts, etc.) can be determined only by someone knowing something about piano construction.

Hi-I also have a Bush and Gerts piano serial number 51450. I was also trying to determine it's age and was wondering if anyone can help? Thanks!

51450 was manufactured in.......1913 Anybody else with a Bush & Gertz while I got my Pierce book open ?

I am a little behind in asking but when was this Bush and Gerts piano made? The number is 24990. I have been debating about selling it but in looking at prices, upright pianos in general almost can't be given away. My problem is having room for it. There is one dead key...but it still sounds great. It does have some restoring to be done. Someone had "antiqued" it and ruined the whole look of the wood and I have always wanted to refinish it. Not enough time to do it all though.
Thanks for any help in the year it was made. I know you can't tell me more than that without seeing it or knowing all what needs to be done but I will be happy with the year.

Wendy, your piano was made around 1901.

I couldn't really find any other sites that would give me an exact year for my Bush and Gertz Chicago. The serial number is 49538. Also, if I had to guess, I'd say the condition is good to very good. Do you think you could estimate what the value might be?

I was wondering if anybody could help me. I bought a house and it came with a piano.. Bush and Gerts 60134.. I was wondering the age and the history of it. If u cant tell me. If you can tell me where i can find someone that can.
