Hi All
I have been reading up on some very sound advice over this forum, and I now have joined to ask for help. I see discussions regarding prices of the Clavinova CLP 330/340 that seem reasonable in BC, but in Alberta, prices are a lot higher. I have exhausted so many avenues to attempt to get a good deal on purchasing the Clavinova or indeed the Roland HP 302 to no avail. Does anyone know of a reputable dealer that delivers either product at great prices?

One does not buy a Yamaha CLP because it is a good value. Yamaha reserves the CLP line to the smaller dealers and gives each of them a protected area. This is intended by design to keep the prices high and support the smaller dealers who need large margins. These dealers mostly don't sell out of their area.

If you are looking for a better value buy a Yamaha YDP or P155. These are sold by mass market retailers and discounted. Inside they are basically the same thing. The CLP340 i a close matchup to the P155 but with close to double the price.

Thank you for that advice...can I ask, do you know anything about Rolands? I wanted a nice looking piano too for my living room as it will be on display, do you have any suggestions along those lines?

The low-end pianos sell at fixed prices. You walk in and you get a deal that's about as good as you'll find anywhere. It's not much different than buying a vacuum cleaner.

But the high-end pianos (including the ones you mentioned) are sold only at piano stores. Those stores try to take a very high markup. Getting a good deal is work for the buyer. It's like buying a car. To get a good deal you really must negotiate. That goes for Roland, Yamaha, and Kawai pianos.

Have a look at the prices paid thread. It will give you an idea of what others have paid for the pianos that interest you.

Great news! I went out yesterday and got a fabulous deal on a Kawai CN33.....I am more than happy, great features in a quality product for less than the competition. What more can you ask for??!
Thanks to all the advice :0)

Congrats, good choice, I think you'll be happy with it. Any chance of pictures posted here, which is where we hang out.
