I've aquired a Yamaha Disklavier MX100b with a high gloss ebony finish. Love it! But it was from a school, and has lots of scratches, some deep, some superficial. I was thinking of taking some Meguiars #2 with a buffer, then Meguiars #9, and the Meguiars polish kit. I'm going to use an electric buffer. I understand its not gonna take out the deep ones, but does this sound like a good plan? Also the inside is very dusty, if I take my Shop vac and blow out the inside, will that do harm? And also the hinge holding the key cover is somewhat tarnished. If I unscrew it and take it off, what would be a good way to clean that?

The finish on that Yamaha Disklavier is polyester so...none of those Meguire's products /polishes will "cut" it. Most polishes just fill the finish scratches. The pros either use ? in the two different abrasive grits or the HEAVY duty rubbing compound by ?. Any DEEP scratch will need to be wet sanded first up to 2000 or even 2500 before buffing.
You can clean the long hinge with ?. It is best to either take it off or tape it off in that ? is abrasive and will scratch the surrouding polyester.You may have to strip the remaining lacquer clear coat off the hinge with lacquer thinner or acetone or ?. These are trade secrets so...PM me if you want to know what the pros use. Good luck!

When I restore appliances I use a product called SwirlX which removes the light scratches caused by buffing wheels on car finishes. Works like a charm and really does remove all the fine scratches and cloudiness.


Now I am using it on painted surfaces, and plastics, Not sure about using it on a piano finish.

Yah I don't plan on doing any wet sanding just cause I'd be afraid to screw something up. Would rather go the abrasive route, even tho it may not get as good results. I've sent you a pm so you can fill in all the "?". Thanks
