I have a client with this key top chip on a Yamaha U1:

What is the best way to repair or disguise this kind of damage? Replacement key tops I can get are not quite identical to the others.

Regards

Chris

You have do decide which would look worse - the chipped keytop or a different colored keytop.

If you choose not to replace the keytop, be sure to lightly file away the sharp edges of the chip.

I have a couple of these on my old piano. The tuner I had filed them down a little. But afterwards, I took a mini rotary tool and put a small little file wheel on it and just took off the sharp edges.

I am not a tech though, so I'm sure there are better ways. I think a different keytop would look worse even if its only slightly offcolor.

A tech can contact Yamaha and get a new keytop. They come in octaves.
