Here's how I have to practice:

Perhaps I should explain. The take before this, my son wailed like a tom-cat right through the Chopin. When I put the recorder on, they started behaving better. What you hear is tame!

Not too bad! At first I was thinking the "Silence, I kill you" was some kind of canned recording that you were playing by pressing a button or something. Now I'm thinking teenager, right?

I have four kids, and I'm pretty sure that I'm going to have to bribe them with some cash to get them out of the house when I want to make a recording. Including their mother.

Nice playing, though!

When I practice the TV is usually going and at least one computer with some really loud game plus kids yelling. The day I did my piano bar recording the kids were at school, but my dogs were racing through the house growling at each other and then sarted wrestling under the bench...what I posted was the only good take of anything from that afternoon. I was thinking yesterday while I was trying to record some stuff again that maybe the reason I mess up things every time I record is that the house is usually so much more quiet than it is when I practice. If only there were a way to record my usual preactice and edit out the XBOX, screaming kids, World of Warcraft games and barking dogs knocking things over from the background of the finished product I would probably be making flawless recordings every time!

Side note, its been quite some time since I've heard anything from "Cornhoolio" LOL.

I'll figure it out eventually.
Until then you may want to keep a safe distance.

I had no idea that was an actual word. I thought it was just his war-cry.

Teenagers, yes. That's just brotherly affection they are expressing.

So I'm not the only one who tries to get some practice in (on headphones) amidst complete mayhem !

"The great Cornholio"
My kids aren't old enough for this yet, but I have fond young adulthood memories of constantly hearing this from my little brother.

I have 2 boys, and I don't normally practice with them around (in my man-cave when kids are sleeping), but I have an upright and "play" on it when I get the chance. Background silence is impossible, and the loud sound of the acoustic usually raises the volumes of everyone else in the house.

I actually find the distractions a good practice tool since I have to tune them out, even if they're standing by the piano asking me questions (i.e. "can I have a popsicle?") or the youngest is banging on the bass notes while I'm playing.

I don't think I could practice in these conditions, but thankfully I have a digital and headphones! smile

Learning to play since June 2009.

Here is an Australian surfie phrase you should learn. When there are too many people taking your wave, we say "it's a zoo out there".
