Hi,

I am new to this forum but am delight to find so many devoted music lovers contributing a lot of useful information to share.

I am looking to buy a new DP and am targeting at Yamaha CLP and Kawai CN lines. My budget is around $2000 US and I live in Boston, MA.

Do you know where can I find a good dealer carrying either brand around in MA?
Which do you recommend better, CLP 330 vs CN 33?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Thanks spanishbuddha for pointing me to more input.
I think I will be more comfortable to try playing on both before making my decision. I found a store which carry CLP DPs but cannot found one for CN33. Any tips will be appreciate.

Why not give Kawai US a call?

Yes, as spanishbuddha recommends, if the Dealer Locator on the KawaiUS site does not provide any local stores (although Avery Pianos and Londonderry Piano should both be within driving distance from Boston), I would suggest contacting Kawai US directly.

Kind regards,
James

Thanks again to you both. I will try to make a trip to one of the store James suggested. Looking forward to put my hands on the CN33

ccl, I recommend calling the store before setting off to double check that the instrument is in stock and available to play.

Kind regards,
James

I live close to Worcester, MA, and on Saturday I took my daughters (who play) up to Darrell's Music Hall in Nashua, NH, and then Londonderry Piano in Londonderry, NH. Between those two stores they played on the Roland HP series, the Yamaha CLP series, and some Kawai CN series and a CA-63.

I don't play but I listen to a lot of music and I had listened to the Rolands and Yamahas at Steinart's and Boston Organ and Piano in Natick, MA. I really liked the sound of the Roland models compared to the Yamaha, and I had not heard the Kawai models yet.

Long story short, my daughters like the Kawai CA-63 the most, followed by the Yamaha CLP-340, and last the Roland HP series. This was based on the keyboard action and sound. I wasn't thrilled with the deal that they could give me on the CA-63 in NH and there is another dealer in Woodstock, CT so I called him and he offered to beat any price I had on the Kawai. (I posed the deal I got to the "prices paid" thread). We got the piano yesterday and they're loving it!

One thing I was disappointed with is that we could not try the Kawai CN43. They had two in the store in Londonderry but both had "worked for a couple of days and then quit" according to the salesman. Hopefully it's just "teething issues" on that model but I found that a bit disappointing.

One other thing was that the CA-63 models I looked at (including the one we bought) were running firmware revision 1.06 despite late 2010 manufacture dates. (I'm a computer guy, I had read up on that stuff ;-))

NonPlayer, thanks for the great information. It is always nice to listen to others who have gone through the same DP hunting process for advice. I haven't played on any Kawai DP before so will definitely take a look at CA-63 as well.

And thanks James for the tips too!
I've called both Kawai dealers and plan to visit the Londonderry once I get a chance (It is snowy today in New England, again :-(, so may not be a good day to take a long ride).
