Ummm, 6 octaves plus four notes. Six time twelve is, uhhhh, 60 + 12 = 72. Add four, ummm, 73, 74, 75, 76! I get 76. Where did I go wrong?

Actually, I can only count to five today so I think I missed an octave. Makes me wonder about myself......Maybe I should check for missing fingers on myself?

I thought maybe Dale is missing four fingers and could only count up to 64 with the remaining 6.

That is like the person who cannot afford a full piano tuning, and only wants the white keys tuned.

But they are a step up from the person who only plays the black keys!

These claims—whether they be for piano, houses or cars—always leave me wondering:
”All that is needed is a little touch up [and it] can easily be resold for 2x the amount asking.”

If there was any truth to them at all the seller would be a fool to not have the “little touch up” done and sell it themselves for “2x the amount asking.” I guess they are just looking for some other fool to come along who will believe. Sigh.

Del, the sad thing is I know where an old Wellington upright is. Might take a little bit more than touch up work though.

It seems that 90% of the pianos on Craigslist are in "excellent shape", and "just needs tuning". Any cosmetic flaws are "easily touched up". A few choice instruments have been "completely gone through". The pricing is usually arbitrary.

Oh, and the lower the price, the more "perfect" they are for a beginner or student.

Maybe he thinks all the sharps are just there for note navigation purposes?

Little bit off topic, but:
Apparently the Canadian Bell Illimatable action pianos were often painted over including a "Steinway" logo as they sounded as good, if not better, as that, and they would sell for more this way. Dan Silverwood has a nice photo series on this beast. I tuned one recently, the owner didn't know anything about it (a family heirloom) and neither did I at the time, but I was immediately blown away by the impressive sound.

Kawai makes Steinway Pianos vs Kawai makes pianos for Steinway. I feel no sympathy for any confusion that Steinway has caused themselves. I have given up explaining that a Boston piano is not made by Steinway. It reminds me of what we used to say the letters in Pontiac stood for.
