Hi,
All being well, I'll be starting a piano tuning course at Newark (UK) in September. In the meantime I'm trying to find someone who is willing to coach me in piano tuning. I have a musical background and dedicate much time to reading about tuning, and practising it (on my own piano). I've contacted a few local companies for a sort of 'casual' apprenticeship (until I go to Newark), but have had no luck.
Is there anyone within a reasonable distance from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire (UK) that may be able to help? Please?!
Best wishes to you all,
Dan Carney

Hi Supply,
Thanks for your reply. Sadly, the PTG doesn't extend to us in the UK. We have the PTA, but it seems that it is somewhat less active than it's American equivalent. However, I will investigate it. I'm hoping to get a slight grounding before the course starts.
Dan

Dan - sorry: I mis-read your location - I was thinking of Newark, New Jersey. The UK also has its own piano technician association, have you tried to contact them about training possibilities? Stacey - I thought Fred or Robert D. were go-to guys for you in Victoria....? Maybe we could trade some playing lessons for tech advice....? You can come by anytime and tune my pianos, I'll be happy to critique your work seems they mainly get attention when a colleague drops in.... I can make one of my mean coffees!

If Stacey was able to receive any assistance at all in Victoria, she would not be traveling over here to my shop.

Dan, I noticed that there is a posting here for a Randy Potter course available for sale, the reading material could provide an excellent foundation to prepare you for your course.. I'm still working through it and even though I feel like it's not enough to make me a good technician (because of lack of practical experience) it gives a pretty good theoretical foundation. http://www.pianoworld.com/forum/ubbthrea...tml#Post1626676Stacey - I thought Fred or Robert D. were go-to guys for you in Victoria....? Thanks Jurgen, I would love to drop by sometime! I don't have any go-to guys on the island yet, I met one of those gentlemen only once at a meeting in Nanaimo about a year ago when I first started trying to join the group, and the other I know only by reputation.
