Hi, I've been lurking on this listserve for a few days, and really appreciate what I've learned so far. I am looking for a used Kawai and have the following two options from Craigslist:

Kawai CA-7 for $1,400
Kawai CP110 for $1,650

I know that age is a consideration for used digital pianos, but I'm having a hard time discerning the age of these instruments.

I would appreciate any input as to which is a better value and whether either is too old to consider seriously.

It will involve a day trip to play these pianos, so I want to have an idea of what you think of these instruments before I make plans.

Thanks in advance!

The weak link of all older Kawai pianos is the sound. Until very recently, I think it was not competitive with Yamaha or Roland. So make sure you like the sound of their older "Harmonic Imaging" technology. I don't think it is really bad but maybe to clean and synthetic and does not work well in medium to low-end headphones.

I've played quite a bit on an older "HI" based Kawai and I think my $1,000 Yamaha has much better sound. Completely different story is if you compare the new Kawai CA63.

Too expensive and you better avoid that old technology.
