I am actually asking mainly those who have used the Motif XF series already. I have watched many youtube videos on it of people playing it and it sounds wonderfully beautiful for a workstation. I was wondering if any of the users could give me extra info that I WOULD NOT pick up on reviews, sites, etc. Because what most sites give you is a summary. I would like a Yamaha Motif, but I wanna know what I am dealing with before I go off and get one anytime down the road. So I need a structured and detailed description of it. For example: all the voices it makes, what all it is capable of, Piano realism, etc.

Its got excellent acoustic instruments, good pianos and passable EP's.
What you see on the videos is what you get ...I play a motif XF on stage and its great.

I recorded on the XS8, and thought it had good action, and decent pianos. But all the other sounds were terrific. The keyboardist at my church (also keyboardist for Restless Heart) plays an XS8 and it sounds really good live. He uses everything from piano, EPs, strings, pads, organ, and everything live sounds very good. The XF is obviously the newer version, so I assume that the sounds are probably even better.

I'm still searching for the "right" board to buy, too and was thinking now about this motif. I thought the RD700NX was *it*, but then I got to thinking that, if I'm spending that much money, it would be nice to get all the creative synth patches that something like the motif could offer. Only trouble with that, is I don't need the workstation part. I have DIgital Performer and Logic, and prefer not to spend the extra 1k on all these unnecessary features. However, 2 of the major features I *do* need are, the best acoustic pianos and the best action. Seems like people here like the Roland, Yamaha or Nord. The tough part is that I don't live anywhere near a store that has stock of these boards. Sort-of depending on the review and comments of everyone here.

I played the XF8 and have recorded and played with an XS8 live, and they are powerful workstations. I played an XF8 yesterday back to back with an RD-700NX and V-Piano, and good God the Rolands are about as far ahead in the acoustic piano department as they could get. The XF8 grand pianos sound like they're in a tiny box through the headphones and monitors. Now all of the other sounds are pretty first class in the Motif, and, live, the Motif sounds great.
If you're wanting something like the XF8, why not wait for the Korg Kronos. That looks to give the XF8 some stiff comp, not to mention pianos that blow the XF8 out of the water.
