This is my first attempt at uploading a home video. The piano is a 2 month old Kawai K3, and yes i know it needs it's final tuning...and the video is kinda blurry and the sound quality isn't the best, but hey... what do you expect for free. LOL

It needs more legato and small touches rubato (but keep it small because this is still a 'classical' piece). The notes in the bass and the melody need to flow together (almost on top of each other) while the harmony still needs to maintain its musicality. However, the harmony must always be the harmony and sometimes I felt like it overpowered the melody. Tell a story with this piece (I see a spirit wandering around in the dark woods speaking to a young man of the mysteries of above). Also, no need to speed up in the end. It sounded odd and out of place. Here's a link to one of my favorite recordings of this piece (if this helps any): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHd8jwXBzXE

Thanks for the input. I realize it needs a lot of touch up work, but im just getting back into playing after a 17 year hiatus ... but it sure is nice to once again have a piano to play.

ive been looking for a forum members recording of this piece. Thank god ive found one. Im learning this piece for an exam in April. I really like it but i do think the bass is a bit heavy and occasionaly drowns out the melody. Im trying to work on the dynamics of the piece at the moment, it is quite difficult. One last thing, is the piece supposed to speed up at around 3 minutes?
Anyway well done!

If it is the 1st Mov. then speed is 5/6 mins. 2nd 3 mins and 3rd 7/8 mins. Take a look at the piece on my YouTube channel!

I was persuaded to learn this piece last year after a lot of persuasion. The pieces I was learning at the time had you playing the melody with 1 or 2 fingers.....like Grieg's Arrietta. So this fitted the theme.

The only version I know of (because I stay pretty much clear of recordings until after I'm done with a piece) is the Andras Schiff and Glenn Gould version. So the 2nd half of admaniac's recording is how I know it. Not the long drawn out version the world knows.

Like here....its faster than normal in Immortal Beloved (Murray Perahia)

Andras Schiff lecture (audio only)

Here he explains why it should be played faster.

The Glenn Gould clip seems to be gone? which was even faster.

If you play it this way you can get a kick out of waiting for the inevitable youtube comments "too fast" or "where is the passion?" Its a funeral march. grin At least you have a different interpretation....that you'll have to explain.

It is awkward in a few places playing it faster though.

The famous slow version is......the point of this scene.
