#1634474 - 03/05/11 09:40 PM V-Piano or Software based Piano with Apogee Duet?

Hello,
I am a guitar player that wants to get a nice Digital Piano solution for home use. It would be primarily for use by my daughter in her piano lessons, and secondarily for me, as I get back into playing.

I can build my own stand/cabinet for speakers. I was wondering if I will get the best sound from a V-Piano or a Macintosh with a Software based Piano going thru a good D/A converter like the Apogee Duet? I have extra computers that can be dedicated to a Piano workstation without incurring extra cost(except for the software). I don't mind spending on a good keyboard with a good piano like action, splits, etc.

Where are we in the sound quality/function race? Is a computer based solution a better way to go, or a dedicated Digital Piano? If the computer is ahead, what is a very good software solution I should research

Thanks in advance for your help. I am learning a great deal on this forum and it is helping me get back into Piano after a 40 year absence.

Regards,

jim

P.S., any other digital Piano's I should seriously consider? Would I loose much if I dropped down to the RD-700NX or should I scrap the whole idea and teach her on a Yamaha U1?

If you care just about sound good software based pianos are way ahead. Playability is a different topic, however I'd say that they are even in a good configured setup in the computer case.

For teaching I'd likely use a cabinet style piano, or better, an acoustic.

Of course if owning an acoustic is possible go for it.

Agreed, if there is the possibility of purchasing an acoustic, and there are no concerns about noise, absolutely go for an it.

Best of luck!
