All you have to do is go to the piano and start playing random keys very fast and very loud. Then when someone asks "What's all that random banging?" you can say, "That's not random banging! That's Rachmaninoff's second concerto!" They will probably believe you and be very impressed. I'm serious. I did it once as a joke. I admit it, that had me laughing. I must try it one day! Oh, and GP, you might want to look at Flight of the Bumblbee. Notewise, it isn't that complex, the hardest part (I think) is the speed, but if you start of slowly and build up to it, it shouldn't be too hard.

For whatever reason:
Flashy Bartok's "Allegro Barbaro"
"I can play this but you can't"
Something with 3 vs 2 or other polyrhythm (assuming you can do it). Like Fantasie Impromptu.
.............WOW whats your problem Huh? You are the one posting with a "problem"! I gave you 2 suggestions: one impressive and flashy, the other more technically challenging because you say you have better "chops' than your foe. My "assuming you can do it comment" was based on the fact that many intermediate players have difficulty with polyrhythms, and there have been many posts here on coping with this...many specifically wrt Fantasie Impromptu. Sorry my good-faith effort fell on deaf ears.

He probably interpreted "I can play this but you can't" as a direct claim about your superior technique over his. We know what you meant. BTW, if 3 vs. 2 polyrhythm is a good trick to impress at this level, and intermediate chops is the constraint, then Debussy's 1st Arabesque would fit the bill nicely.

I was thinking of the 1st Arabesque too, and was going to suggest that instead. Great minds...

Well I know I used music as a way to meet and impress young ladies, matter of fact I met my wife of 32 years playing in a band. So I hear where you're coming from. There are many reasons for playing music and trying to impress other people is certainly one of them.
How about Mozart's Rondo Alla Turca from Sonata No. 11, K331.
You could also try a little ragtime, the Maple Leaf Rag is about a grade six and sounds fairly impressive.

GP: You've missed the point of Stanza's 'I can play this you can't' statement... There was a suggestion of two pieces - a 'Flashy' piece to impress this other person in your class... and an 'I can play this you can't' piece.... as in "I, Graded Piano, can play this piece and you, other person in my class who I want to show off to, can't"
That's what Stanza meant.
It sounds as though you are quick to jump to the conclusion that others are trying to put you down. The people here in the forum - and this person in your class. Perhaps you would be better to continue with YOUR enjoyment of music as a model for this other person - rather than engage in a competitive one-upmanship. That's never going to get the outcome you want. If this person truly does want to put you down - then no matter what you play you aren't going to impress them. So... keep playing what YOU enjoy - and enjoy the process. Leave others to do the pointless showing off. oh i understand now, im sorry Stanza and i think your right lime friday, i should not try and show off to this person, ill just ignore them and play for my own enjoyment
