Hi Guys, Is there a lot better piano sample in the CP300 than what is in the p250 - from what I can tell the difference in Rom size is just the 30 banks (22mb) vs 50 banks (40mb). If I do the math - its 36 mb if I just add more sample banks. Is there anything else about the piano sample that is better ?
trying to decide if used p250 or new cp300.
also, what is a fair price for a p250 that is 8 years old - 8/10 condition. Action is still like new.

I owned both and liked both the samples. I'm sure if they were side by side I'd hear a difference, but I was happy with both of them as far as someone can be happy with a digital keyboard.
I say that because, when you hear other people play your keyboard, it always sounds excellent. After you've lived with a keyboard for a while, you hear little flaws and they start to grate on you.
Do you really need the built in speakers? The CP33 has the same piano sample as the CP300. If I had to do it all over again, I would have bought the CP33 instead of the CP300.
The price for the P250 shouldn't be too much at all since that is now several generations old. If there's not too much of a price difference, go for the CP300. If you've played the P250 and if the piano sounds great to you, buy it - it's your money and your decision when it comes down it it, right?
I contacted the guy who bought my P250 when I was selling my CP300 and he was perfectly content with that piano.

I don't remember the action as it compared to the P250 except that I liked it.
The action of my CP5 is lighter than the action of my CP300. I prefer the action of the CP300 to that of my CP5.
Everyone's taste is different. Be sure to play the pianos in question before to you make you your mind. Bring a good set of headphones as well.

thanks for you helpful comments I like the Yamaha actions too - i had a p80 back in the day but it was stiffer than some of the newer ones I've tried.

got a chance to play both yesterday, not at the same place of course. Brought some headphones. I would say that the piano sounds are the same sample. They seemed to adjusted it some on the 300. the 300 has a slightly different sound to it but you can tell they are the same samples. I think the extra banks are all in the center of the keyboard as I could hit the same sample changes at the low end and top end of the keyboard. But it sounded different in the mid range ares. The 2nd grand piano is the same but does sound little better. The pianos were slighly less woody sounding. I'm not sure if one is really better than the other.
the action on the cp300 is a little lighter. the 250 seems to have equal resistance all the way through the key motion. the cp300 seemed to drop a little easier once you stated getting it going. The 300 seemed to be a littler faster.
the only different sounds I could find were the 4 mono pianos and a 2nd Clav.
the one main thing that i notice that was really odd is that the 250 was about 2x as loud. I noticed the same thing in the headphones. In the phones I could turn it about about 40% and be plenty loud - had the turn the 300 up about 75% to achieve the same level of volume.
I'm only going to be playing at home and wondered if the lower speaker volume is going to be an issue. I played the 300 at a sam ash so it was a big room but you could definately see the differece in volume.
is there a way to compensate ? the volume was really different.

The action on the CP300 is the GH action so it's graded top to bottom, so it theoretically should get lighter the higher up the register you play.
Both Daves are right. Dave Ferris is right in suggesting just going for the CP300 (if you want speakers) and Dave Horne is right in suggesting the CP33 if speakers aren't required.
