Hey, i'm learning this piece from "the piano" and i was just wondering what grade people thought this piece is. I'm grade 4 at the minute but doing grade 5 soon. Has anybody else learnt this and how did they find it.

It's a beautiful song which reminds me very much of Einaudi.

I am also planning to learn it at some stage and am therefore also very interested in knowing the difficulty level.

Hi Lauralouise,
I don't post here much anymore.
The piece is a Grade 9 level for the [Canadian] RCM Piano Exams (for the 2002 Syllabus edition). It's part of the "Popular Selections" list. You can view the current 2007 list online: http://www.rcmexaminations.org/acadinfo/popselectionlist07.pdf . Scroll forward b/c Grade 9 starts at pg. 28 & "My Heart Asks Pleasure First" is mentioned on pg. 31.
The piece is truly beautiful, something I quite enjoy playing. Resist the urge to play it fast - dynamics and expression make it so beautiful. Enjoy. smile

Hi, I've dug up this old thread because I am wondering the same thing.

I think the level depends on the version of the song. With that said, does anyone know what level is this version?

Youtube Performance

and here is the sheet music:

Any help appreciated. smile

This version is in the Australian AMEB Piano for Leisure 5th Grade Syllabus. Piano for Leisure goes from Preliminary to 8th Grade - with a Certificate for Performance after that.

I don't know how this compares to other grading systems. But it sits alongside other pieces at that grade level such as Bach Invention No 13, Beethoven Fur Elise, and Satie - any of the Gymnopedies.

I hope this helps.

it's around grade 7-8 in abrsm terms for the uk. I'd say it's more difficult than fur elise. At grade 5 it's possible but would take some commitment.
