For those who only play, here's something to be jealous of. Not only because she plays 3 instruments, but doing so at the [same time] same song... wink

And she's cute (but don't tell my wife that I said that! laugh LOL)

This college girl was all over the local news here in Taiwan. She took a typical mandarin pop ballad and mixed it with some classical, as you can hear from the violin parts. I think there was a interview of her after this video exploded on youtube and she said "finally, somebody discovered me".

Can't say much about her looks (most girls here around her age look like her) besides her deceptive long legs but what great talent! Not sure what kind of career she would have in mainstream unless she has an amazing voice to go with all instrumental talent.

edit: as i read the youtube comments, why am I not surprised that a video like this ends up spewing off internet flame wars about China, Taiwan and Korea. Sigh, what a way to burst a bubble. Wish I haven't read the damn comments.

Awesome display of musical daring and talent!

(But... but... why does the music have to be so bad? Famous melodies, of course, but any harmonic progression is completely stunted. A young artist who using three instruments to play good music... that's what I'm waiting for. smile )

Yeah, I agree about the chord progression being generic and same with the melodies, but that still seems complicated to switch quickly like that and it's pretty entertaining to watch.

And yes, she's super cute. laugh

Let me explain the reason for the generic harmonic progression.

The progression is from a Pop song sang by a famous entertainer in Taiwan/China, southeast Asia region. She (pop idol) manages to churn out 2 albums a year, all the songs which are written by a slew of music producers that follow the same generic structure on writing mandarin pop music. The chord progression happens to be one of those pop songs that were meant to generate revenue as opposed to being a form of art.

With the right arrangement, right singer, right marketing, right music video of the song, the record company makes money and could care less about how "generic" the harmonic progression is. Please take it with a grain of salt. And I agree, I'd be much more impressed if the melody/harmony were original, but nonetheless, what she did was still a magnificent feat by any standards.

fwiw, my problem isn't that the harmony isn't original. My problem is that it's bad. I wish someone of this woman's obvious musical talent would know the difference, and care.

I agree and disagree. Most upbeat pop tunes produced in Taiwan are like this. She had to appeal to the local people first, so I'm sure there's a reason why she chose this tune. I'm not sure if she care's or not, maybe yes, maybe no, but given her age and the pop music that infests the society of Taiwan (Karaoke anyone?) I bet she actually really likes the pop song the progression was set to.
