I saw on YouTube rigs in L- and C-shaped arrangements. Looks inconvenient to me. Why would a performer do that? Apart from personal preferences, are there more objective reasons for arranging one's rig that way?

oh my, can he eat and drink normally, no?
Edit: I have seen single boards arranged that way too, but I may not have seen any special uses, I don't watch these kind of videos to the end.

Currently on stage I have 6 boards so I use 3 x 2 tier stands in a C shape plus the rack with the laptop on it and the screen for the other computers and the Receptors and a Ipad controller attached to my front stand to switch between them. All my stuff is right in front of me when I need it , how I need it .... and that's they way ...ah huh ah huh I like it !

I guess you would call it contemporary chart oriented dance pop. Many people call it rubbish ,I call it paying the bills. 2 of the boards are just controllers to trigger phrase sequences.

Yeah I guess I could take a few on my phone and stick them up if anyone is interested. It's really nothing special.

I've seen folks pull off a "C" in a modified "L."
The main, larger boards comprise the 90* of the main L. The third set is angled (45*) in between the 90* angle, usually with shorter ( < 49 ) keybeds, sometimes resting on the edges of those below, and solo off these from either of the two main legs.
Re-reading I'm not sure that description entirely comes across. The guy from Porcupine Tree does it.

Come on Doc... Show us the pics Man! Leave Rick Wakeman in the dust! I just saw a picture of Rick playing a C rig. In regards to the excellent video Lefty, of Stevie and boys... Notice how Stevie played most of his solos with his eyes closed. Only the really "good guitarists" play their solos with their eyes closed. You gotta jam in the dark. Its the only way to feel the music. That's what makes them great! Blackmore plays the same way and no two solos are the same. Try practicing solos with your eyes closed all the time. It really helps your playing. Does anyone play a circle setup and crawl out after the gig/set?

C'mon, upload some pics man!
