You know the rules, you are going to be put on a desert island.
You are allowed to take only 8 songs.
You are allowed to take One book. (you get given for some reason the complete works of shakespear and a religeous book of choice)
You are allowed one luxury item. (Its a fact that the most commonly requested luxury item is a piano)

So, what are your eight songs, your book, and your luxury item?
(remember you cannot have toilet roll AND a piano, make a choice!)

I'm wanting to know about this "bog roll" business. I call it toilet paper... I had a college roommmate from Canada who called it "bum wad" (the etymology of which seems not too difficult to divine)... but "bog roll?"

Quite old now slang for a toilet in the UK is bog. Toilet paper is/was also available as sheets in a box, and then came the roll. The term is derived from there... Sorry to be off topic.

Ah, I suppose "bogs" as in peat bogs, in the UK anyways, are dank, stagnant, stinky places?

Thank you, spanishbuddha, for your enlightening response. Now, I just want to be sure I have this straight... did someone just apologize to Rostosky for taking his thread off topic?

A small oversight there by Spanishbuddha, not realising that to be on topic is problamatic.
However, not as off topic as R, who through being born slightly stupid, and having some poor schooling to nurture that trait, totally forgot to put his own 10 desert island discs and book and luxury into the equation.

Yes.
A very poor UK way of expressing problematic.
On my desert island, the book I would take would be a dictionary.
The luxury would be a Piano, but a really good one like say a Broadwood grand or a Bechstein.
Still working on the 10 songs.

May we assume that there is a climate-controlled cave on this island?

Is electricity a default feature of the island? I will need that for my DP and stereo rig (to play the songs). Rostosky do you really mean songs, and not CDs?

My book would be Chopins etudes. The piano... a monster Steinway. The songs... I guess etudes.

I hope this island has lots of trees with lots of leaves....

The book would have to be one written by the OP him/her self, whose profile claims him/her to be a writer. It could have the potential to be a very funny book since the profile also asserts that he/she is a humourist (humorist) - although judging from his/her posts so far here at PW it would certainly be understandable why there would be a high degree of skepticism about that possibility... wink

Sorry - the devil made me say it...

I also assume a generator and CD player come free, otherwise the cds are just frisbees...so that my luxury item is a Nord Stage 2 synth/piano.

I am also assuming 10 cds, as opposed to songs.
1) Bach, St Johannes Passio
2) Stivell, Journe a la Maison
3) Anonymous 4, Ladymass
4) Slayer, Reign in Blood
5) Pantera, Great Southern Treadkill
6) Stivell, Celtic Symphony
7) Simon, Graceland
8) Bach Toccata
9) Naxos Mixed, Great Opera Arias
10) Beethoven, Ninth

As the religious book of my choice, I take the Mahbharata, all 100 volumes of it, and the Lord of the Rings as my book smile

The program "desert Island discs" apart from the "grand old oprey" is the longest running radio program.
They started out with discs as meaning records.
I guess cd's with only one song on them will have to replace that for the sake of easyness. you used to get a windup gramaphone, so now you can have a wind up cd player.

its a desert island, you cant go having electricity.

I think, to be a little more up to date, you should be able to get a 160GB Ipod with solar powered USB charger ... that could have a bucket load of music on!!! smile

Sorry Rostosky. I understand now the idea originated in prehistoric times, and I am not quite unfamiliar with those. So I will bring only 78 records and a windup grammaphone. Seems a DP wont be too smart, but as a drummer I always find something to drum on.
The records will be with the three great Bs, Bach, Beethoven and Bird.
Havent decided on the book yet.

Our lives would be much more interesting without electricity. Sadly, we are a culture of zombies addicted to the TV.
