Hi,

I am just going to buy a second hand Clavinova CLP 170. As I will be keeping it in my hostel, I would like to buy good headphones also. I want something which I could use for piano as well as for music mixing purposes. First I would like to ask if I should buy open or closed headphones? If open (as I have seen most people recommending these), is there much difference in Senheiser HD555 & HD 595 (I think these are the best without pre-amps)? I am getting HD 555 for 100 Pounds and HD 595 for 134 Pounds in UK. Is HD 595 worth that much increase in price. Also, could anyone recommend any retailer from where I could buy them cheaper in UK except ebay & Amazon.

Thanks

Have you looked at Sennheiser HD380 Pro? It gets good reviews, have tried them once don't know much about them though. HD380 are closed headphones.

I actually want something which sounds beautiful with piano and it also works for mixing. I mean piano is my primary purpose and mixing is secondary. Are open headphones good for digital pianos or closed ones?

Thanks

HD555s actually use the same speakers as 595. The only difference between them is that there is a piece of foam sticked inside the 555s. This foam can be taken out and you've got 595. This is a known and easy mod. Then there are some visual differences but you can see that on other photos.

EDIT: I use modded 555 and they are wonderful for playing the piano and music.

I just bought the Sennheiser HD 558 for 99 Pounds. Will that be good for Piano and simple mixing stuff?

Yes I think they'll work just fine.
