Hi there guys, I am about to leave my teacher very soon and is deciding on what to give her, here are my options so far :
1) Buy a CD of Stephen Kovacevich and get him to sign it with his autograph, might be able to because I will be attending his masterclass tomorrow.
2) Learn a new piece for her in secret - doubts there will be enough time tough
3) Get a farewell card
4) Buy a musical book for her
... any other suggestions? smile

A gift card is always good.

I wouldn't buy the CD for her. She may not even like his playing! A gift card with a handwritten note is a great idea. I personally like Starbucks, but one to the local music store or an online store might be good. What does she like? Perhaps a nice restaurant.

Yes! Find out where she likes to shop. I always cheer when I get those from students.

I normally get a gift card, often to the music shop that I know my teacher goes to. I also do write a note or card. I get baked goodies from students and that is REALLY delightful! It's very personal gift giving, my teacher loves coffee but isn't the biggest fan of starbucks coffee, or gloria jeans... he doesn't drink either, I'm more into tea... but coffee is nice ... anyways gift cards, personal cards, something homemade if you're that type of person ... they are nice things to give.

I have having my last lesson with my piano teacher NEXT WEEK. I have ordered a personalised heat and reveal "Best teacher mug" for him (with a cartoonized professional photo of him on the mug). I am also going to write him a thank you card. In the card, I am going to write how his appearance affected me (not just helped me to improve pianistically, but he changed my life).

I wanted to order Ingolf Wunder's newly released CD for him. But I have some technical problems with it. (It says it is released already, but I can't find ways to order it). Maybe gonna play to him Chopin's Farewell Waltz as icing on the cake. (However, it may give him a heart attack because of my awful interpretation)

Thinking of letting him see my youtube channel. Not sure if it is a bad idea (my username looks a bit funny... and he may discover the silly posts I have made on PW). Do you think he will like it?

Hope it can give you some ideas smile

The notes I handle no better than many pianists. But the pauses between the notes - ah, that is where the art resides! - Schnabel

champagne and a card. Just don't get sparkling white or anything under 50 or you might actually do more harm than good.

In this day and age, unless you know the person well, alcohol is not an appropriate gift.
