Hi all,

I'm playing a wedding coming up on July 3, and rather than being in church (where I would have use of the organ), it is an outdoor wedding. I have access to a good digital piano and PA, so I will be playing piano music for the whole service. Any ideas for a bridal processional and recessional that will work on the piano? I'm thinking something in a march style for both, but any suggestions are welcome. Nothing too advanced, as I won't have a ton of time to practice. Thanks so much!

Hmm. Well, a transcription of the Mendelssohn Wedding March from A Midsummer Night's Dream and Wagner's Bridal Chorus from Lohengrin would be a great start!

Here are some other traditional pieces to consider. Shouldn't be hard to find transcriptions for piano.

We're using the Clarke, Handel and Mouret for my son's wedding this coming Saturday !! grin

Purcell - Trumpet Tune

Currawong and Pianojerome - Thank you !! Amazingly, both of our families (bride's and groom's) attend the same church. In fact, that's where the bride and groom first met. I've hired a talented young man to play the trumpet during the ceremony (accompanied by our organist). We have relatives flying in from five different states. Should be fun !!

Steelphantom - Please let us know what you decide to play at the July 3rd wedding.

Congratulations, carey! I hope your son's wedding is fantastic! smile

Thank you for all the suggestions, everyone. Does anyone have any suggestions for original piano compositions, rather than transcriptions? Not that transcriptions are bad — I very well might play a few of the suggestions already – but I'm curious as to what's out there specifically for piano that I could play.

Thanks again, everyone!

Jesu, Joy of Man's Desire by Bach is popular for wedding processionals.

How about Grieg's Wedding Day at Troldhaugen? Real crowd-pleaser and not difficult (though it sounds it).

At the last wedding I played at, we did Ode to Joy (Joyful, Joyful from the hymnbook) as the recessional.

I am not aware of any processional/recessional music that was originally composed for piano. People tend to want a standard piece for that portion of the ceremony, so I wouldn't do anything outside of custom unless the bride asks for it. The preludes before the processional could be piano music.

Maybe some Bach preludes or Chopin polonaises (most of the polonaises are probably too hard to be learned in one month, so if you haven't played any of them, the only one that I can think of is the one in g minor (it doesn't have an opus number, but I think it is listed as number 11)). About the preludes, I think any of them would do, preferably the ones in major keys, so if you have any Bach in your repertoire, it would be a good choice. Any dance type music could also be considerable: minuets, mazurkas et cetera.

The Chopin Mazurka no. 48 (Op. 68, #3) is one I think would be especially wedding-suitable, and isn't too hard.

I wonder, in my oft curmudgeonly way, if perhaps the third movement of the Op. 35 Sonata might be appropriate for the recessional! smile

Bad wife = short life
Good wife = long life

Just my philosophy, of course. smile Personally, I hope to be the latter instead of the former.
