Thanks for nothing guys. All the talk of how great the Roland V is so I worked out a trade for my CP1 even though I never really played one. I dropped off my CP1 and brought home a V. What a mistake.

A few things about the V. The action sucks for piano. Furthest thing from a piano action I have ever felt. It is springy and feels like plastic. Second, I can't get a good piano sound out of this damn thing. I'd take a Casio piano over the Roland V pianos any day. Good luck trying to create the sound of a real Steinway or Bosendorfer. You will have better luck trying to create the sound of flatulence. I also don't understand why you guys were saying the design is simple. It is full of buttons and lights and I'm not sure where to even start. Finally, there just aren't enough keys on this thing for some classical pieces so I think those of you saying that you are using it for classical must be playing children's pieces.

Dude, the recent talk has been about Roland V-Piano, not Roland V-Synth! Does it even have weighted hammer action? And no 88 keys, sorry, but I have to ask, what were you thinking when you made the trade?

Sorry to hear of your mistake but it appears that you are comparing the wrong "Roland V" to the Yamaha CP1. It is not the "V-Synth GT" but this, instead:

Roland V-Piano / Original model

There is a world of difference between the V-Synth GT and the V-Piano.

I woke up this morning to check if I just had a bad dream, but when I went downstairs I found that indeed my beloved CP1 was gone.

I blame two people for this.

1) My father. It must be genetic, but we are easily confused. I remember as a child i asked him to buy me a Beatles album for my birthday and he got me the Bee Gees instead. The emotional scars of opening that in front of my friends live with me to this day. Which leads me to....

2) Bennevis. His constant talk about the V had me thinking I couldn't do without one. He kept calling it V-Power so that's what I asked for... Roland V-power. I should have known when the box was so light, but I figured all the talk about the significant weight was just wimpy classical piano player talk.

In any case, one good thing is that arpeggios seem effortless. Almost like all I have to do is close my eyes and hit one key. Also, my eight year old thinks it is much better than the CP1 and he is a budding musical savant on the pan flute.

Do you guys think practicing on the V all the time is going to hurt my piano technique?

Perhaps it is not too late to pack up your V-Synth GT and take it to the store in exchange for the CP1?

Looks to me that the CP1 is the higher priced board (of the two), so would you have to pay any additional money just to get it back?

Also, you have 88 keys on the CP1, and, a more authentic action.

Lucky you didn't get a barrel of gasoline ! They could have mistaken it for Shell V-power - it doesn't sounds as good but it get's you further than you ever imagined...

I love that you have that beautiful bench in front of your new "V"!

I wasn't familiar with the CP1 you traded away, so I looked it up. I personally don't understand why everyone on the forum is so upset - I think you definitely got the better end of the deal. I was surprised to learn the CP1 is apparently quite portable, but its sound is rather brash from what I gather.

I'd say keep the V.

Speaking from the perspective of a bona fide "pre-beginner" who aspires to learn how to play piano one day, even I would know how a Roland V-piano looks like, and some of its nuances. Lurking in this forum in the past months, I have learned much from all of you, my friends, experienced pianists and keyboarders alike. And among them, Hideki, your postings invariably have been informative and knowledgeable. There is no way you could have made this purchase as an inadvertent mistake, an mistake that even I could not have made.

Thank you for clowning around in an effort to entertain us all on a hot summer day.

Ok. Well if you you are going to call me out like that, I must admit I haven't stopped laughing. I figured my thread title would peak some interest, but that my first post would immediately be recognized as an attempt at keyboard humor. I understand where some may not have seen that, but I assumed by the the second post, when I cast blame on my father and the everlasting stigma of the gift of Bee Gees, and Bennevis for misleading me with his V-power, my intentions would be clear. I threw in my flute savant child and the wise teachings of Cesar Millan for good measure. Andy Kaufman was for the old timers like me... 41 is old timer here, unlike the Piano Forum.

I did do a trade involving my CP1 for the V-synth and it wasn't a mistake. As my signature indicates, I'm pretty set in the piano department and I happen to enjoy other keyboard instruments.

I assumed V was for Virtual and GT stands for Grand Touch. So this instrument should't disappoint at all ! It's obviously offering everything that it says; just close your eyes, enter the virtual experience and enjoy the grand touch. That's all it takes (you can even 'feel' the missing 27 keys in the virtual world this synth offers; great job Roland - I'll trade in my stage as well now that I've seen this !)

Hey! I can only talk about the V-Power, er, V-Piano because that's all I've got. Nothing came before it and probably nothing will come after it.... . Of course, if someone was to gift me with a good acoustic grand (like the one opposite your V-thing), I wouldn't say no (and I'd promise not to refer to my V-Piano as V-Power ever again) .

Yes, I noticed. In fact, the AKG K271 is now so common amoung the hoi polloi (not you of course ) that I'm thinking of upgrading to the dinky Klipsch Image X10i, so that I can still stand out from everyone else. What do you think?

It is unbelievably fun to use. I thought it would be difficult, but it is pretty straight forward when it comes to using it as a performing tool. The Articulative Phrasing technology let's you get some unusually expressive synth sounds and the Time Pad and D-beam can be used effectively in moderation. It is also an incredible sound design tool, but I'm more of a tweaker than creator in that area.

I'm about to destroy the simplicty of my piano room by putting the Kronos, Virus and V-synth in there, but it's gonna be a blast.

I kinda read the post with the Bee Gees. It just sounded like a bunch of weird nonsense. So ironically, instead of thinking "this is obviously a joke," I thought "yeah, this dude is outta his mind." LOL
