Hi,

I am currently in the market for a new DP and have decided on the Yamaha P155 for various reasons (no need to go into that here). According to Yamaha's website, this model was released Jan 2009, approx. 2 1/2 years ago. I would hate to buy it, only to see Yamaha release the "P165" in 6 months. Does anyone have any idea if an update is scheduled for release in the near future? What's Yamaha's typical update cycle? I know the P155 is a successful model, so perhaps they'll stick with it for a while?

Thanks in advance for any input.

I expect Yamaha will announce a new P160 instrument at NAMM 2012, along with the Privia PX-x40 range from Casio.

Cheers,
James

I wouldn't worry about chasing the latest innovation. I doubt the successor to the P155 will be much different from the P155. Change happens very slowly in this business.

This year's new Yamaha Clavinova lineup was announced in January 2011 and didn't appear in stores until April. So ... if, as KJ says, the P160 is announced at NAMM next January, you likely won't see them in stores until several months later, perhaps April 2012. Can you wait for that?
