Enjoy the film, Rossy!

I’m listening to the string quartet by Ives. I think I like this composer more and more with your posts, Grffin.

Hi Recaredo! I'm glad you're enjoying the Ives string quartet. I have not listened to a lot of Ives' music in the past. This one really captured my interest. I'm motivated to explore his music further. Perhaps I'll come across some things enjoyable enough for future postings smile

It's the University of ABF... though I prefer the term used to describe Dett, above: life-long student.

Perhaps in the same mood, and definitely in the same era (Nash was '74, De Vaughn was '72), is Be Thankful For What You've Got. Covered by many, many people (including Massive Attack) but William DeVaughn's original is still the biggest and the best. (There's also a DeVaugh 80s 12" disco version etc.)

Eglantine, I loved this. I had forgotten it. Thanks. BTW, I like the University of ABF. At this University, however, all you have to do is enjoy music and good friendly convrsation! smile

lol, this guy throws laptops... and has an incredible throw.

"Briljant" marketing of thin laptops. Somebody got paid for this idea. If this idea works, something is wrong with our economics.

Hi Rossy! That was an amazing recording of Clarence Ashley. I hadn't heard of it before now. When was it recorded?

It's been quiet around here today. I'm going to be in and out today. However, I do have a few offerings for now. Here is Cassandra Wilson with "VooDoo Reprise." Her guest vocalist is Angelique Kidjo. Enjoy!

Here is one more offering for today, Aretha Franklin's classic soul ballad, "Share Your Love With Me."

Sorry Griffin, had a strange old busy few days, 1933 is the answer to your question, but that is only for the first known recording, it is believed to be a much, much older song.
Today sees me struglling for a train horn..

Now before you ask, yes Rossy does get into some strange things sometimes, but a train horn I hear you ask?

Yes, well to be more specific, the actual sound of a two tone train horn of the english variety..
There are Horn wavs and mp3's a plenty of USA train horns, but they are totally different from what I want.

So, after much listenings I obviously ended up on youtube where the best example of what I want exists in a youtube video...

the problem, is that the youtube video is Ten whole mins long, and the particular train horn that lives in it that I want is 3 secs long...

So, twenty mins to download it, then convert it from a flv to a ripped mp3 ((a) because i dont want the video and (b) because flv's cannot be imported into abelton)

Then import the mp3 into abelton, find the part I want, snip it out, and "disregard the rest" ( thats actually in a song by simon and garfunkle, " a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest")

Anyways, then when that little 3 second "snip" is got, it then has to be positioned exactly on the track, to the.000000 of a second... THEN, THEN, THEN,>>>>>>>>>>>>

I find out that by the sheer power of happenstance and CHANCE, the "two tones" of that sound, happen to be exactly the same pitch as some music that is going on in the background of that track... AND at exactly the same time......

The chances of that are like a million million to one against, yet it happened to me>>>>

What does that actually mean? ( I hear someone say somewhere) well, what it means in this instance is that it throws the EQ out badly, as the two sounds are trying to live in the exact same frequency, so they are not heard independently clearly, they both "compete" for the same space in the spectrum....

There are many "answers" or solutions to this, but it just means more work, And i thought i had done enough for that three seconds in my track allready!!!

these things are sent to try me, and they have tried me, thats what I have been doing and what I have been busy at......

so back to the grindstone I go.... I have just admitted that three seconds in my track have cost me about five hours of real time and life I cannot get back... its painstaking stuff!

later dudes and dudettes...
