My guess is this will lead to a lady ga ga / bach mash up. Pokerface vs prelude. Probably end up as Prelude face. OR pokeherfugue. OR stocattaface. Just a guess, educated one, or I have seen the future.

Wayne, good luck with Bach. You will learn alot. The preludes are very nice for technique and the magdalena pieces are good to begin with. Some say Bach is a bit tricky to learn, but when you do, you will have repertoire that lasts.

I'd like to make a suggestion about the first Bach peice you should learn.
Menuet BWV Anhang 115 in G minor
Here is what it sounds like
It is wonderfully melancholy.
Its in every single edition of Bach's Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach. There is a version on the site you gave originally, but it is in the wrong key. They add the correct flats where necessary, but I have not given the copy a extensive look so there may be errors in it. I suggest you purchase a proper copy of the Notebook for Anna Magdalena to avoid any possible errors (You won't regret it).
For example, this is a good edition: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Selections-Magda...0256&sr=1-9 This is a good one for beginners of Bach because it explains the ornamentation quite well, and besides being an URTEXT it also has suggested ways of performing the pieces noted in light grey which you can easily ignore if you so choose.
Oh yeah, technically this piece was not actually composed by Bach. It was composed by Pezold (something Bach neglected to mention in the manuscript). But the piece was undoubtedly a family favourite of the Bach household (all 22 of them!).

That's how it was in the original manuscript, so isn't an error, but of course would add an unnecessary challenge to a beginner. Strangely, I haven't come across any other public domain copy of the Notebook...
(I'd stay away from the cheap but sloppy Schirmer "First Lessons in Bach" by Carroll which does contain several selections from the Notebook. There are incorrect notes and ornaments, as well as unnecessary added dynamics.)

Also stay away from the Edition Peters (No. 4546) version of the Anna Magdalena book, because they add a whole bunch of unnecessary harmonies. This is fine for the pieces that require figured bass, but not fine for this minuet which does not require it.

Hya Wayne, you know how we correct each others spelling mistakes ,because neither of us have spellcheck?
Well , I nearly corrected "Propabily" Then, (fortunately) I realised that you meant Proper Billy.
So, I went and found a youtube video of Proper Billy for you. From the film Deliverence, (also known as "you've got a pretty mouth boy) I hope you agree this is as "proper" Billy as they get. The only Bach connection is the tree bark, and the odd dog bark.

I don't know what level you are at technically, but if you have never played any Bach before, I don't think that beginning with that fugue is a good idea. Sorry to be so pessimistic.

Wayne, I think you should invest in a proper teacher, someone who is qualified. I was thinking, you know you cant afford one,? maybe thats not true, maybe you just cannot afford one every week.
There is no law in the UK that states how often a piano teacher should give lessons, I am sure you could find one who would be willing to do Once a fortnight or even once a month, most can be flexible, especially if they know you will work hard at what they have set.
Its worth a thought?

Wayne, It's shame your in Sheffield, I'm in Worcestershire, my Seven year old granddaughters teacher only charges £10 per hour, she has a half hour lesson each week and she's progressing well. It was the teachers suggestion that she only had a half hour lesson to begin with.
Wayne, I think you should start with Bachs Menuet. I have the sheet music for it, and it seems to be so easy that even I can manage it with a bit of hard work. And G minor is my favorite key. I intend to start with it when I have got my Handel piece in reasonable shape. I hope I can manage without the Clayt method, but its the results that count.
