My guess is this will lead to a lady ga ga / bach mash up. Pokerface vs prelude. Probably end up as Prelude face. OR pokeherfugue. OR stocattaface. Just a guess, educated one, or I have seen the future.

She came up with Pokeherfuge, and stoccatoface. I just thought of prelude face.

Wayne, good luck with Bach. You will learn alot. The preludes are very nice for technique and the magdalena pieces are good to begin with. Some say Bach is a bit tricky to learn, but when you do, you will have repertoire that lasts.

I'd like to make a suggestion about the first Bach peice you should learn.
Menuet BWV Anhang 115 in G minor
Here is what it sounds like
It is wonderfully melancholy.
Its in every single edition of Bach's Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach. There is a version on the site you gave originally, but it is in the wrong key. They add the correct flats where necessary, but I have not given the copy a extensive look so there may be errors in it. I suggest you purchase a proper copy of the Notebook for Anna Magdalena to avoid any possible errors (You won't regret it).
For example, this is a good edition: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Selections-Magda...0256&sr=1-9 This is a good one for beginners of Bach because it explains the ornamentation quite well, and besides being an URTEXT it also has suggested ways of performing the pieces noted in light grey which you can easily ignore if you so choose.
Oh yeah, technically this piece was not actually composed by Bach. It was composed by Pezold (something Bach neglected to mention in the manuscript). But the piece was undoubtedly a family favourite of the Bach household (all 22 of them!).

That's how it was in the original manuscript, so isn't an error, but of course would add an unnecessary challenge to a beginner. Strangely, I haven't come across any other public domain copy of the Notebook...
(I'd stay away from the cheap but sloppy Schirmer "First Lessons in Bach" by Carroll which does contain several selections from the Notebook. There are incorrect notes and ornaments, as well as unnecessary added dynamics.)

Also stay away from the Edition Peters (No. 4546) version of the Anna Magdalena book, because they add a whole bunch of unnecessary harmonies. This is fine for the pieces that require figured bass, but not fine for this minuet which does not require it.

Hya Wayne, you know how we correct each others spelling mistakes ,because neither of us have spellcheck?
Well , I nearly corrected "Propabily" Then, (fortunately) I realised that you meant Proper Billy.
So, I went and found a youtube video of Proper Billy for you. From the film Deliverence, (also known as "you've got a pretty mouth boy) I hope you agree this is as "proper" Billy as they get. The only Bach connection is the tree bark, and the odd dog bark.

I don't know what level you are at technically, but if you have never played any Bach before, I don't think that beginning with that fugue is a good idea. Sorry to be so pessimistic.

Wayne, I think you should invest in a proper teacher, someone who is qualified. I was thinking, you know you cant afford one,? maybe thats not true, maybe you just cannot afford one every week.
There is no law in the UK that states how often a piano teacher should give lessons, I am sure you could find one who would be willing to do Once a fortnight or even once a month, most can be flexible, especially if they know you will work hard at what they have set.
Its worth a thought?

Wayne, It's shame your in Sheffield, I'm in Worcestershire, my Seven year old granddaughters teacher only charges £10 per hour, she has a half hour lesson each week and she's progressing well. It was the teachers suggestion that she only had a half hour lesson to begin with.
Wayne, I think you should start with Bachs Menuet. I have the sheet music for it, and it seems to be so easy that even I can manage it with a bit of hard work. And G minor is my favorite key. I intend to start with it when I have got my Handel piece in reasonable shape. I hope I can manage without the Clayt method, but its the results that count.

I'm really considering it actually, lessons that is. I've been looking at teachers in sheffield today, not that It will be yet, but maybe in the near future.
I sort of tried clayts approach today, not literally 10 x per measure, but a couple, and have got to measure 11, the whole peice is only 61 measures, so I might actually continue for this one. Maybe I'll get it finished in time for the next recital?

PPP, thanks for your deep and thoughtfull concern, I am not actually feeling OK today, in fact I am a little depressed.
It all started with Mrs. Rossy getting all romantic. Let me elucidate.
Mrs Rossy was looking in her wardrobe, and found her wedding dress from 15 years ago. (I just want to point out that this particular dress was a total waste of money, she only wore it once.)
She said today: "It would be so romantic if I was buried in this"
I said ; " you better make sure then, that you die of some sort of wasting disease, cos thats the only way you will ever fit back into it" I went on to say, "If you die of natural causes, I will have to just throw it into the coffin on top of you, does that count as romantic?"
Apparently , it doesn't, and she threatened to cook dinner again.
Not the bestest of days.

I didn't see this post, till now, do you fancy sending me a copy, I will give it a go, still gonna do the lady gaga fugue though.
Rossy, you could start feeding Mrs Rossy healthier stuff, as a romantic gesture! (thnx for your advice by the way, it looks like I'm honoured)

I tried to feed mrs.Rossy more healthier food, really I did, I said "mrs. R, I am only going to make you one bacon and egg and mushroom and tomatoe sandwich for breakfast from now on, instead of the three you normally have"
She went ballistic, Vicky pollard would have run. Kicks, and screams and more tantrums than Jordan without a credit card.
I had to compromise and agree to cook her mid morning roast dinner earlier on in the day.
And I found her hiding venison behind the cushions on the sofa again.

Wayne, if you try Bachs menuet in G minor, you could learn Bachs menuet in G major after that. It's almost the same, so it won't cost much effort to learn. Then you can play it like a real menuet: majort part, minor part, major part. After that, you can edit a video of lady gaga quickstepping to it and put it on youtube. It would be fun, I think.

Cheers Paperclip, cool advice
Rossy, it sounds like you may have to opt for dress alterations, I would advice you, maybe, to have a full legnth zip fitted, it will make getting it on a little easier, especially if Mrs Rossy is a bit stiff! or maybe two full legnth zips, one on either side
Wayne, sorry I cant send you a copy of the Minuet, since I dont have a scanner. But it is available on the net for free download, and there are several performances of it on Youtube. I think most, or all of Bachs music can be downloaded for free.
Wayne, to get the g minor, write "minuet in g minor" in google, open "Minuet in G minor.Free Sheet music, piano", and you have it ready for download in PDF.
Yes, they are BWV 114 (major part) and BWV Anh 115 (minor part). Although your first link, I couldn't open, but the name looks like it. And second one is the minor part.
Wayne, I managed to overlook the second link. Yes that g minor Minuet must be right, it seems to be identical with my sheet music. I just decided to wait with the Handel, and have started with the g min Minuet. Very nice piece, and it seems I can handle it. Edit: Seems I am the slowest person around here. Well, the question should be thoroughly answered now.

Wayne, the minuet in G minor is on the original site you found in your first post but take a look at what me and pianomaly had to say in Page 1 of this (i.e. your) thread.

Did take a look back, but I'm just gonna stick to the one's on the site I posted originally, at first I couldn't see the g minor one (because when I clicked on the 115, i was looking at the key signiture and thinking, oh thats not in g minor, but as you say, they flat all the e's where necessary)
So i know what I'm doing now, thank you to everyone
