Hi All,

I am going to buy a NEW upright this year and have time to research, but getting straight answers from dealers is biast at best. . What I need from you "in the know" is how they rank. Who's the most $, who's not worth the $, who is "don't get one of those". You get the picture. If I can't get these answers on this forum, I'm at the mercy of the dealers. Thanks!

Dave

Dave,

You are going to get a ton of different opinions. Pianos are very personal.

I would suggest that you start out by reading "The Piano Book" by Larry Fine and also get the updated suplement. Look on the right side of this page, near the bottom, and you will find a link for the book to Amazon.

This will give you the background to make a wise selection and will inform you about the ranking of instruments.

Then when you are ready, play every instrument you can get your hands on.

Many times. The more pianos you audition before making a decision, the better you will understand what's available and what you personally like.

Don't hesitate to go out of town to play promising brands and models not available locally. I hesitate to mention specific names but, if you poke around on this forum, you will find references to some well respected dealers in the Seattle area, across the border into Canada, as well as in your own immediate neighborhood.
