Yay!! My teacher okayed me on my first Chopin etude. I'm learning the "Cello" etude (oops, I forgot that most of you all don't like names!) which is op25no7. I would've liked to learn op25no11 but my competition is in three months and perfecting the winter wind etude (sooo difficult!!!) plus the rest of my program would be TOO much work (especially with school starting in Aug). So I guess I'll learn the 'Winter Wind" later. I'm a little disappointed about that but op25no7 is gorgeous, so I won't stay disappointed for long!

Hurray  I look forward to hearing it (I wonder how long...?). Wow, Chopin Etudes, they really are a coming of age moment for a pianist aren't they. Do you feel you've entered the special realm? I think "Cello" etude is one of the less offensive names, not just because of obvious cello bias, but because it doesn't suggest emotions or a story line.

Oh I'm so happy to be learning this Chopin etude so yep I un-modestly feel i've entered a "special realm"  . Of course op25no7 is certainly one of the "easier" Chopin etudes, but still, it will be a big accomplishment for me once it's mastered. I have to have the etude and the rest of my 20 min program mastered perfectly by Nov for the first round of the MTNA competition. I'm hoping to have the etude learnt (but not mastered) in a month and maybe I'll put it up on YouTube then. I just worked out the first page today so I think I have a pretty good start on it!

This is a wonderful etude! Even if technically it's not as difficult as other Chopin's Etudes, it is certainly a challenge from a musical point of view! Instead of training our technique alone, it develops the quality of our sound, the depth of our touche (especially for the left hand, which is usually more difficult), the ability to explore delicate dynamics and our capacity of understanding and playing with subtle emotions! I certainly love this Etude - I learned it many years ago and play it very often! Good luck with your practice!
