Yeah, I bought the somewhat new Yamaha Clavinova CLP-440 and it arrived today, about eight hours ago.

I assembled it and the bench and started playing right away, but a few things botherd me...

First, the bench is a little too low for me; I'm prepared to deal with it and eventually buy a more adequate bench , but I'm afraid I might have missed something to attach to the tips of it's legs, like rubbers for preventing scratches on the floor or something of the like.

That was one issue, but the one that disturbs me by far is the boomy sound. It almost hurts my ears when I turn the volume over 50%, but only happens with a few notes between middle C (C4) and C6. It gives a really annoying tingle deep within my ears and it's not standable for too long.
Also, that only happens when you're close enough to the instrument, such as when you're playing it.

I tried to move the sofa and it seemed to get slightly better, but I'm not really sure if that was just some sort of "placebo effect". I was thinking that this could be an issue due to the (small) size of the room, but I'm not willing to move the piano until I'm completely sure that is the only solution to the problem, since that will take a lot of effort.

Other than that, I really like the instrument ^^
I was thinking of opening a Q&A thread about it, but I wanted to solve the boomy sound problem before that.

In any case, I apreciate your help folks; Thank you!

The small room could well be the issue, or at least a contributory factor. The sound from the piano is probably bouncing back at you. It does almost hurt to listen to it. If you have any flexibility in the placement of the piano then you are going to need to move it around. Sometimes bringing it away from a wall slightly or turning the piano to an angle that is not parallel to or exactly perpendicular to the wall may help a lot.

It may be something you will end up having to live with although some improvement should be possible.

Just make sure all is well through headphones to eliminate the very unlikely scenario that there is something wrong with your piano.

Good luck,

Steve

011.guilherme, congrats on your new piano!

1. A bench is easily replaceable, and I wouldn't necessarily consider this an issue with the instrument.

2. As EssBrace notes, try to move the position of the piano away from the wall to allow the sound of the instrument to 'breathe'.

Cheers,
James

Benches are usually around 19" high, sometimes a bit more. Measure yours. If it's around 19", that's the correct height. (Correct for the bench, but maybe not correct for you.)

I think you might have a problem, tat sound is "bouncing" off the walls. Some curtains or something similar in the room may also help.

The bench is easily fixed by 4 bottles of wine. Corked bottles.

Hey guys! Thank you all for your answers!
Now some feedback...

I've noticed that, depending on the position of the instrument the agressive notes change, but they're always within the same range.
I had already though of using something like curtains to absorb the sound a bit for me; I'll try it ASAP - no rushing, though...
I woke up today and it didn't seem to hurt me as much as yesterday.

I didn't have anything to measure the bench, but fortunetaly it has a couple of labels under it and one of them says it has 50cm of height (19,7 inches).
I put a a few books under the legs until I got to a nice size for me; it seems I've got around 2,5cm to go (1 inch), so it should't be that hard to fix. Probably a couple of corks will solve my problem.
