Hello Everyone, I've seen a few Ibach pianos on line for 6 to 10 thousand dollars. I would think they would be a great piano ? Was one of the oldest piano company in the world. They didn't put alot of money in advertising. Anyone out there own one ? I live near Seattle Wa. I would like to get my hands on one. Any idea where I might go to see one ? Hotels, Schools etc. What was the last year they made pianos ? Thanks again for all your help. This is a great source for piano information. Sincerely, Steve ps: Any books on the company ?

They stopped production end 2007:

Klavierbauer Ibach gibt nach 200 Jahre auf.

IBACH website (in German and in English, the German version is more complete): http://www.ibach.de

IBACH books: http://www.ibach.de/deutsch/buechervk.htm

Undoubtedly the best informed expert in IBACH piano history is Florian SPEER. He finished his PhD thesis* about this topic in year 2000 at the University of Wuppertal, Germany. He was a former member of the IBACH stuff.

* ... The title of Florian´s PhD thesis (written in German):

"Klaviere und Flügel aus dem Wupperthale - Instrumentenbau in der Wupperregion und am Niederrhein während des 19. Jahrhunderts am Beispiel der Orgel- und Klavierbauerfamilie IBACH."

Translation: "Uprights and grand pianos from the valley of Wupper - instrument making in the Wupper region and at the Lower Rhine during the 19th century using the example of the IBACH family of organ builders and piano makers."

The Wupper is a river in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), Germany. The latest head quarter of IBACH was located in Barmen/NRW.

Hello 1bigbird / Steve,

Noticed that most of your threads, inquiries and responses end in the polite manner above.
You've certainly had a good run in declaring interest in most of the high end pianos the past few years here.

Are you really interested in purchasing a piano?
Or just thankful and sincere whome
for initiating several threads without any actual follow up.

Are you for real?
Curious...

I bought a Yamaha afew years ago and lost 12,000 in less than a year. It was either lose the house or lose the piano. I hated for that piano to leave the house. I told myself the next piano I get I will know something about it. If I had the money I would buy a piano in a second. In the mean time I continue reading books and asking questions. I have a friend that doesn't play the piano and he could care less what's under the hood. I've played since I was 20 and will continue taking lessons. I was told in school I had no musical ablity. So much for High School teachers. If one is determine one can do anything. Piano is something you don't learn over night. It will always be challenging. My first piano was 350.00 and I played it out of tune for 2 or 3 years I couldn't afored 100.00 for tuning. I worked 40 hours a week and put in 25 hours a week practicing. Sincerely, Steve

Well I won't question then why you couldn't get your piano tuned while working 40 hours a week with an extra 25 hours of piano practice for 2 or 3 years on an out of tune piano.

Best wishes on determining your dream piano.

Wow, that must be going back aways. I think I started working at $3.50 per hour back in 1975 after graduating from high school. A few months later I got a job as a jewelry polisher and got paid $4/hr which seemed like big money to me then. Are you sure a piano tuning cost $100 at the time you were earning $3/hr, as you mentioned above.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your Yamaha. Do you currently have a piano to play on?
I've noticed since reading PW the past few years your interest in several of the high end pianos in threads that you've begun.
I'd love to have one of the finer pianos also , but realistically settled for something I could afford.

Best wishes with your piano adventures.

Thanks again for you reply. One could always dream. I did have a piano that I payed 28,000 for so I could do it again it might take me a little more time. I don't think I need to pay that much for a nice used piano. I do have a Story and Clark upright built in 1962. It suits me just fine till I buy what I want. Take care and enjoy the rest of the summer. Sincerely, Steve
