Hi everyone, I'm so glad I found this forum. My new piano arrives Thursday and that is also the day of my first lesson. I'm very excited and nervous. I have never had any kind of music lesson and I'm 46 years old. I have always loved the piano so I'm going for it! I'm sure I'll be on here a lot asking questions and looking for support. Any words of wisdom welcome. Thanks.

Welcome Eveewomder.

Tell us about your new piano. Is it acoustic or digital?

It is an acoustic Essex 123fl. Poor piano is going to be sad until I can one day learn something beautiful to play on her. The piano is new. I keep looking all around for the best place to put it. I'm all worried about were the vents and windows are.

Welcome and congratulations! How exciting; a new piano AND new lessons all on the same day! I'm sure you'll enjoy both from day one.

Others will likely have better advice, but in placing your new piano, try and aim for an inside wall if possible, as there is less temperature fluctuation on an interior wall. Individual heat vents can be closed off, if there's one near your piano, so that's not a really big worry. Stay away from fireplaces and woodstoves...too hot and drying for the piano when those are in use. And do avoid is direct sunlight on the piano. That causes too much change in temperature as well, and is detrimental to the finish. Be aware that with a brand-new instrument, there will be a settling period and your piano will need to be tuned up to four times the first year; that's normal.

Congrats again, have fun, and I know you'll be making beautiful music very soon!

Welcome, Eveewonder! Going for it was the first step that will bring you years of enjoyment. Congratulations for the acquisition of a new piano... and for starting with your piano lesson! smile

Thanks everyone. I'm really going to work hard while hopefully still having fun. I know it will take lots of time and practice. Very excited about finally being able to do this. Thanks again for the well wishes. I'm sure I'll be around a lot with questions.

I test drove an Essex 123 when I was piano shopping - just the standard look. It was a lovely piano and I would have been happy to have one ... I hope you really enjoy yours and you will make wonderful music soon I'm sure!
